Spider ID?

Found this little guy in the bathroom as I'm about to take a shower. I think it might be a cellar spider but I don't know for sure.

No clue, but it's freaky enough that I would have jumped out of the shower screaming LOL, and forgetting getting a photo :laugh:

It looks very similar to a type of cellar spider but the legs look too thick and the abdomen looks different....Also I can't see the mandibles / padipalps very well... I'm looking around trying to find a similar picture to attempt to identify it for you. If it's one thing I'm decent at... it's bugs. The past two years I was an absolute bug freak.

If someone knows what it is, go ahead and speak up. I'm just nerding out trying to research it. :P

I think you might have a male Brown Widow on your hands. Could be female, i'm not sure.

Cellar spiders have long spindly, string like legs and tiny in comparison bodies, and no visible mandibles.

The fellow you've got there has decently thick legs in comparison to the body, and an oddly shaped / colored abdomen. I looked up whether brown widows can be found in Colorado, and while not common they can be found there.

Another reason I believe it's a male brown widow are the lengths of the legs - the two front and two back are extremely long while the two middle pairs are shorter.


I think the main issue is a lack of reference for size comparison ^.^' About how big was the spider?

Can you get a better abdomen shot? It appears to be a male orb weaver.
