View Full Version : What is this guy?
Hey everyone, I just got this guy a few days ago and he was given to me as a Pueblan but he doesn't look like one to me. That being said, I don't know my milks very well yet so any insight is appreciated! :)

Hobby Honduran or Hobby Hondo milk snake.....
I would never call our captive Hondurans L. t. hondurensis......

That is for sure! I see a mixture of different ssp. in that animal. Maybe there is a little Pueblan in it but I see Honduran and Polyzona as the two major ones. I can really say what it is not, but with out knowing parental lineage on it you can never really tell with certainty what it actually is.
I have to agree with John it is a Hobby Hondo, which is basically a mixture of many different sub-species. Not always but could include, a different mix of any of these: polyzona, oligozona, stuarti, hondurensis, or maybe even some abnorma.

and some people wonder why hybrids are so heavily debated.

Maybe I'm a purist, But I prefer my animals as nature intended.
Don't misunderstand me, polymorphism is natural.. so albino, anery, melanistic, etc.. is all great.
but "cream corn" "pueblacorn" etc.. is anything but "natural"

the reason i advocate.....
1 taking pictures of copulation
2.take pictures of egg laying or live birth
3.take a picture of and sex each hatchling produced
4.give all of the above away with each hatchling purchased
imo, hybrids MUST be correctly documented and declared as such
cheers shaun

That would be great, but there are people that don't care or give there animals away and then they don't care to know or keep good history. It's just a waste. Can you tell me all about the lineage of your first snake? I didn't ask where, when,or how when I bought my first snake and I don't expect new people to the hobby to do the same. Heck, some pet stores don't even know the difference between a Kingsnake and a Shovelnose. A well named chain at that.
I can't stop people from breeding what ever they want but I can make sure what I have in my collection I know the lineage and history on it all. I have my reasons for being against hybrids, but have learned to accept what has been done cannot be changed. For example, Creamsicle corns are hybrids but yet they have been around for decades and have been accepted as corns. This hobby has grown to be all about color and pattern mutations and not about natural history and how the species acts in the wild or captivity. Sorry for the rant.
I will agree to disagree on this subject.

its like car collectors, some only want original and some only care if it looks good, same with the reptile hobby...know who your dealing with and you could avoid all the jazz

Exactly!!!
So, I can safely say he is a hobby Honduran?
I don't have much background on him, the guy who gave him to me only had him for a year or so. Really all I know is he's seemingly healthy, clean, docile, and takes his prey quickly, and that's all that really matters when it's a snake I did not pay for. I don't have any intentions to breed, either.

Yes, I agree it is safe to say it's a "Hobby Honduran". He looks healthy and glad you're enjoying him.

He is a cute guy! As soon as I can figure out how to upload pics (may have to have my teenager help me LOL) I will post our pueblan he looks exactly like the other pueblans I have seen on here but does not look like your little guy. That being said I have several snakes that are or possible hybrids and one is my best snake ever! So as long as you enjoy him than that is all that matters most!!!!! Have fun with your new friend...;)
