Okay so I am moving across country in a few days and need to know if my plan for Athena will work. I am going to empty and sterilize her enclosure and pack that, then put her in a small sterilite inside the cab of the truck with me on the trip. I will drill holes in the sides and have bedding and hide for her. I am planning on putting the bin on a pillow to try to limit the vibration from my truck. Any other considerations I should make? I hope for the trip to take no more then three days hopefully less. I plan on just bombing through everything but we shall see.

What are you doing for heat?

If it is on a pillow and you have heated seats you could turn them on low.

Do you have a heat source planned? I'm moving in a couple days too but it's only like a 7 hour drive. I have a thingy that plugs into the lighter thing in the car and you can plug regular plugs into it (terrible description, I know) so I'm gonna put all 4 of my kids in small tubs and set them on a human heating pad

One tip I learned from a breeder I bought my BP Ashanti from was to put a towel over their container to minimize sun contact, and in your case you could also put a damp towel over it for humidity purposes. A water container inside with her would be impractical, but perhaps you could have a small water spray bottle on hand that you could lightly mist the towel / her container every now and again. Making sure the cab of your truck is decently warm would be good as well.

As personal advice, make sure she doesn't have any food in her stomach. She will get stressed enough with the move, no need to add a regurg to her stress. :)

This is just advice i'm thinking that I would do - It's what I think would be common sense. Experts, please feel free to correct me. lol

Considerations for the enclosure in the back are to wrap in a blanket, and make sure nothing can smash it...you can put stuff inside.
For the snake in the cab with you...might consider one of those hand-pack heaters since i'm sure you'll have it human temp which is low 70's or you may have the air conditioner on.
I have moved from eastern Oregon to Southern California, not with snakes, but with fish. We had to keep them regulated because the floorboard of the moving truck got very hot.
So, we had to keep them cool. But i imagine for snakes it would be opposite! : )

^.^' I just try to think of what is best for the animals in question. When I picked up Shanti I had two friends with me - one of them actually ended up taking his shirt off and putting it over Shanti's little container for the hour and a half drive because we had nothing to cover him with. It was a warm day though and the moss inside his container that he came with was moist and kept him nice and comfy.

If you don't have the means to provide extra heat for the snake, you might just have to suffer without the A/C, and just a cracked window. If it's hot and summery where you are travelling, that should be warm enough if the snake is covered so the heat can be retained (Seat warmers work fantastic, by the by, I know that was suggested already). The cracked window will provide you and the snake with fresh air flow and keep you 'feeling cool', while it will still be nice and toasty inside.

Make sure the tub is secured well enough that the snake cannot get out. I moved several weeks ago, and my BP got out of his tub twice, which was not really a problem because I had his travel enclosure inside another tub that held all of the hides/water bowls/thermostat stuff/etc.

Good advice I had to do the move across town and that was a small journey with 5 snakes and a toad but I managed it I left all the little babies in their enclosures and put a blanket over the three had no ac and it was 90 outside so they were warm the 2 corns were put in pillow cases for the short trip across town I made sure nobody ate for a week and a half before moving then waited a week after the move to feed no objections from them all ate fine! Good luck on your move keep us posted when you get settled :)

okay well I am moving from az to nc and don't anticipate heat being a problem. if anything it could get too hot so I will keep a towel for shade. I will mist for humidity and if needed I will get some hand warmers for heat just incase. Her feed schedule is friday so she will have plenty of time to digest and I hope to be there by the following friday as to not throw her schedule off too much. I will make sure to secure the tub.

I too am planning a cross country move in a few months. A was planning on screwing sterilite containers to wood with UTH stuck on them. Run the UTH to a rhetosthat, and the rhetosthat to the cigarrette lighter. You can buy a good adapted for $30 bucks

I went from Texas to utah with Oliver...all I did was put him on a blanket between the seats, and the engine of the truck kept him the perfect temp, even with the ac on. They'll be fine =3

when travelling i just put the snake in a pillow case and then put that inside a cardboard box,or if its a large snake,i just put the pillow case on the car seat

Okay well shaun the pillow case thing is not going to work as I am also traveling with my dog. I think I am just going to do the sterilite container on a pillow with a towel to keep the sun off of it.

Ohhh makes a move more interesting to move with different pets when I moved from California to Iowa had my cat he rode in the plane with us I couldnt imagine having to make a long trip with all my snakes and enclosures that would be to much I would have to rent a Uhaul trailer just to haul all of their stuff lol :)

Soon ( I hope) I will be moving with all my pets.. 5 snakes, a lizard, 4 birds , 3 dogs, 1 husband and 1 child.

It will be tough but all 5 snakes will go into pillow cases for the car time. I will ave mini vivs set up with heat sources for night time. I think placing the snakes in a pillow case is the best idea.. then place the pillow cases in a tub to keep them from rolling around.

Moving is fun! lol

I moved all 18 of my snakes I had at the time in my Kia with all their enclosuresplus 4 snakes that belonged to Rmf. It took 4 trips to do it and thank goodness this move was only a few miles away. As it is it took all day to move them and set them up. @ OP.. I would make sure it is plenty warm in the cab. You dont need heat as long as the ambient temps are in the 80s in the cab.

Good luck with your move.

I agree, pillow cases are the best way. That way they dont freak out at fast moving shadows.

imo,you need to make sure the snakes,NOT sliding around inside what ever type of container you use

imo,its best to use the smallest container it will fit in,packed with shredded newspaper

the dog won't be in the front passenger foot well, will it ? the place where the humans feet go,thats where i put mine in a pillow case, while travelling

that way the snakes not sliding around inside a box/plastic container

cheers shaun

And this is why I shouldn't get any more reptiles until I'm settled haha. 3 snakes is plenty haha

When is your moving day? Are you going east or west? Not trying to be nosey just curious to think ahead about weather with Issac taking its toll out east travel maybe difficult and not possible on many chunks of interstates alot are closed now in the southern states! Also are you going to be stopping in motels for the night? you might want to invest in a human heating pad as mentioned in an earlier post. Hotels are usually pretty chilly temps for snakes! Also dont mention to hotel staff about your slithery friend might scare the crap out of housekeeping. LOL that would be funny good luck take some pics of your friend once he is settled and happy in your new home!
