Hello,
Just getting back into snakes after a long dry spell. I have owned two ball pythons in the past. Im thinking of going the Emerald or GTP or another Ball for my next pet. Im looking forward to lots of good info from everyone.

Welcome. If you've only had ball pythons I would definitely not make the jump to either of those snakes just yet. They are very advanced snakes, and a lot of keepers find it very difficult to keep them alive. On top of that, emeralds and some green trees have nasty attitudes.

If you do the research and practice setting up the temps and humidity correctly before acquiring the snake you'll be fine. If you want a GTP that's not very temperamental make sure you handle it before you buy it. Alot of GTPs are bitey, but there's lots out there that are just as docile as a Ball Python.

Good luck!

Whilst i agree GTP's are more advances as long as you do plenty of research and planning prior to getting the snake there isnt too much of an issue.

My first argument on this forum was because of people tellling me that i was too "green" to have a GTP but <touches wood> i have had no issues whatsoever with mine :)

It is but that wouldnt be a major issue anyways with an animal that shouldnt be handled. With the amount of times we take our out of the viv if he was aggressive it wouldnt bother me at all :)

I have friends who are very advanced snake keepers and breed GTPs, and even they've had problems with a few snakes.

So if keeping and breeding GTPs wouldn't fully prepare op to keep one then what will?

I was simply pointing out how difficult they can be.

Hello and welcome. I got my GTP after only owning a corn snake and a ball python for a few months. I have not had any issues at all and as long as you do some research and have your cage set up properly you will do fine with one.

Thanks for the welcome!
Im not looking to open a can of worms but...Im not to worried about how difficult it may be. Im more than capable to house/handle a animal correctly. I am a service manager for a aquarium maintenance/install company. I take care of hundreds of different species yes mostly aquatic but none the less they all have different requirement/temperments. Yes there is no substitution for experience but with good research one can provide great care.
