Hurricanes, and how to keep my snakes warm

We're expecting a hurricane this weekend... My house does have a generator, but there is still a chance that both the power lines and the generator will blow out. I'm sure the heat mats will remain warm for some time... but suppose they eventually run out; then what? Any ideas as to how I could warm them? How long would you say they'd be OK without the heat? Being in south FL, without the A/C, the house would be relatively warm. Just want to brainstorm how I can make sure I tend to my snakes in case of a hurricane emergency.

I would be more worried about them getting too hot without Air Conditioning........
I live in an area like you....hot and humid.....

I take it you have BPs?
They can go months without supplemental heat.......

I would not feed them any time soon so they will have a clear stomach.....

You can get those hand warmer packs that activate and last for up to 8 hours, and place that into a pillow case in the enclosure, or under where you have the heat mat...i think i remember you have the glass front cages, and i don't know how those are heated.
These CAN get too hot, so be careful. But they are easily renewable in case of an emergency, though not for too long term i'd think. as long as the room temp is above 70 they should be good for a couple of days.

Hurricanes are scary..though i have lived through many earthquakes, and lived near mt st helens (active volcano) where there were tons of earthquakes per month from the mountain...they're all scary *lol*

you can order 40 and 72 hour heatpacks , just add newspaper or some thing between them and the cage to make sure the temp doesn't get too hot. cooling could be a bigger issue , might have some ice handy in cooler and make ice packs also .

I would have some heat packs and Ice packs ready.. if it gets to hot or to cold you can help regulate it that way.

if you drape blankets over your tanks,it keeps the heat in longer if the powers out

all mines have night time temps of high 60's to low 70's with no issues

i'd worry more about too much heat,than it being too cold

too much heat kills snakes a lot quicker than the cold does

Well, it's too late to go out and buy heat packs or cold packs... The hurricane is here, right now, and no one is going anywhere outside. All the stores are closed too, obviously. It'll be all of today and all of tomorrow as it moves past us. So I have to make-do with what I have. So far we still have power in my neighborhood.

Lucky you. Where I live, my power is going on and off. Trying my best to keep everyone at decent temps.

In a bind you can always put bottles of water in the fridge (cold packs). If the power goes out your refrigerator will remain cold if it's kept closed.

For hot packs, bottle some water and keep it at room temperature. Dump a bottle into a pot, heat it up, and then re-bottle it.

There's also body heat.

We're fine over here in my corner. My dogs got play time outside, and even a walk. We went out to the movie theater and then dinner. AND I have work off tomorrow! :D
