View Full Version : King Snake Won't Eat

I have a 3 year old King Snake. It won't eat anything but crickets. I've tried to starve it for a few weeks and then introduce the small mice. I even tried meal worms. I've tried everything that the people down at Petsmart told me to do and it refuses to eat, except for the crickets. What else can I try and can it live on crickets. I'm afraid that it needs better nutrition.

Thanks.

I don't know what to say....

You must get him off inverts immediately... Try feeder anoles from an online source.

How is it being housed? ( tub/tank, heat, water, humidity) How long have you had it? What was it being fed before you got it? All of this info is needed. Also some pics of the snake would help us see what kind of condition it is in and allow us to offer better advice.

Why did you start another thread, when you never answered the questions asked in this one-

I am not trying to be harsh, but we can't help you if you don't at least try and give us some info, like a picture of said snake, how often you're offering prey, etc.

I am surprised a 3 year old King would still be alive, if it was only eating crickets...

I truly, truly hope he/she comes back and gives us something to go on. I'm afraid the next thread will be " I found my King Snake Dead":(

This is a bizarre thread indeed. If my King were large enough, s/he would try to eat my dog. My 2 year old King is 3 feet long and has a voracious appetite. Feeding a 3 year old King a cricket, would be like feeding a mouse to a subadult Retic...

Ok, I think I have the answere. It may not be a King it might be a Sand Snake and they don't get very large and eat insects. At least that's what someone told me today. Here's two pictures of it.

It looks like a king to me but I would need better pics to be sure.

It is definitely not a Sand Boa, if that's what someone told you, trust me..... And if they told you it was a Sand Boa, and that it ate insects, then they are gravely mistaken.

I have someone in another Forum that says it's a Desert Phase California King.

That sounds right, we need to get a king expert on this thread.

Now I have someone from another forum that says it looks like a Shovel nosed snake. I'm thinking it has to be a snake that doesn't get very large that eats insects. If it was a King it would have grown faster and larger and would have eaten the baby mice.

If you can can you get us a close up of the head?

Here's some more pics. I don't think it matters what kind of snake it is as long as the diet is the same.

And you still haven't answered these basic questions.

I hate to say this, but i feel as if the OP is stringing us along. If he truly wanted to help his snake, he would gather all the information that was asked, not only in this thread, but the original thread he posted.

With this thread, i feel like i'm a puppy chasing it's tail, round and round i go, but still can't get to the ultimate goal.....
