Would a 24"x12"x12" enclosure be large enough for an adult spotted python? I have a bookshelf with these demensions and would like to convert one of the shelves into a terrarium.

For a couple years maybe but as a adult you want some thing bigger.

So what would be a good size for a "forever" enclosure? I really don't want to spend the money to build this terrarium and then have to turn around and do it again. I really like the idea of using a bookcase but I can't find one that is 36" wide, which is what I wanted originally.
I'm new to snakes and have a Cali Kingsnake, so I don't know for sure, but I've read a few articles that say an adult BP needs at least a 36" x 12" x 12" enclosure. I just finished building my baby kingsnake a 36" x 18" x 18" enclosure out of pallets.

No.. the smallest I would put hem is in a 2 foot cube. They do like to climb so if you're pressed for space then a 2 foot cube (at the smallest) would allow perches, increasing the usable space for the snake in the enclosure.
