So I couldn't pass up this 55 gallon aquarium with a nice cherry wood stand. I have another 55 gallon discus/live plant tank also. I don't feel the need to do another fish tank so I've set my sights on a snake. I want something that stands out a little, doesn't get so big I have to get another tank, and preferably arboreal. I'm honestly a little creeped out by snakes so handling it isn't something I'm concerned with as far as temperament. I do think they are beautiful creatures though, and would like any and all suggestions regarding a good choice. Please no abbreviations, I won't understand! Thanks a bunch

If you're creeped out about snakes then I would start with a snake that you are comfortable with, and then move to an enclosure with live plants once you are used to taking care of the snake. Keeping snakes will require some handling, if only for maintenance. I would start by going to a breeder and looking for a snake that doesn't creep you out. Based on the snake's environmental needs you can then come up with a concept for its enclosure.

In my opinion, you should really be giving more serious thought concerning if a snake is really the right pet for you. Getting a good deal on a tank and not feeling the need to do another fish tank isn't the best reason for snake ownership. They're a long term commitment and as said above, there will be some form of handling required. You might want to get as much exposure as possible to snakes first and do tons of research on what snakes are all about, before even contemplating getting one. Mind you, I do love fish and have had many large aggressive cichlids, but snakes are a totally different ball game.

Well. Thanks for answering every question but the one I asked. Im a pretty accomplished exotic pet handler/ breeder and I'm sure I can handle a snake. So does anyone want to give me some snake names or websites that sell so I can get this underway.thanks again.

A good beginner snake would be a corn snake.
