Profile: Romeo

Romeo is the one who inspired everything. romeo was 1 year old when I first met her, and under the care of a friend. On occasion I took care of her (handled and fed her a few times) when the owner couldn't. Well a year later I was given Valentine as a christmas present, and romeo was forgotten with the other owner. In a way Romeo was a rescue - my friend was so busy that they could hardly manage to buy her food on a regular basis - they simply forgot with how swamped they were. When they realized this they started looking for a new home. On my 18th birthday my dad asked what I wanted - I couldn't think of anything except, well, another snake! So things happened and he paid for Romeo and her setup. Romeo seemed to have shrunk since I'd seen / fed her last, and I was worried. But now she's back to health and as vigorous as she can be. I don't have many photos of her by herself - she's a rather shy snake.

And a personal favorite. :) This is a picture that's a few months old, but it's the only one I have where either of my girls are yawning! haha, you can tell which girl is who, the behemoth on top is quite obvious... lol

very nice snakes. and such a wonderful story that the snake who originally started your love for snakes and opened your eyes to snakes ends up being cared for poorly and finally ended up in your care for you to help her and save her. absolutely lovely. :)

i wish i had such a nice heartwarming story.

The original owner is soon to be my step-brother, and I keep him updated on her all the time. That was part of the reason he gave her up to me - he knew he could still see her if he wanted to! haha. His girlfriend loves Romeo too, and she adores hearing how she's improved.

God this shy girl is just adorable... I look up from my laptop and see this... She's halfway under her hide and poking her head out, haha.

"Shh.... You can't see me... Wait, no! I said you can't see me!"

i hope you did not take offense. by no means did i mean they didnt care. but as you said they got busy in life and kept forgetting food. kudos for them todo the right thing.

one thing i have learned is that alot of people who has animals in a bad situation and actually realize it and do whats best for their pet by giving them to someone who can care for them properly actually are very caring and loving people.

it's awesome that they still are apart of her life and want to be in her life.

my point was only she opened your eyes and in the end you have her as you pet to plump her upand love her. by no way was i degrading them. i have total respect for people who do the right thing. where as alot are like ehh its cool to own a snake im gonna keep it cause its cool and feed it whenever whocares its cool.

oh I didn't think you were degrading them, not at all. He knew he wasn't taking care of her right, and knew that I was taking good care of the ball python I already had (seeing as I lived in the same house for a few months, he saw what a monstrosity Valentine had become! :D ).

I just find it funny that he's now going to be my step brother soon, his dad proposed to my mom on her birthday, August 25th, on her last relay leg of the Hood to Coast. :)

He had been trying to find her a new home for a while before I was able to buy her from him, I had offered to take care of her so he didn't have to give her away, but he never took that option.... I think his girlfriend was pressuring him to get some money out of Romeo and her set up. -shrugs-

Again, I wasn't offended at all. :) I didn't mean to sound like I was. She really did open my eyes and get me to push my mom to let me have a snake. Until romy, a pet snake was a far fetched dream from the fourth grade. And now.. I've got three, and once i'm out of college and my mom's hair, I'll have more. :)

Well, went and made myself a youtube so I can start doing videos of my darlings.

As a note, I know she's got substrate in her water bowl. She gets it in there when she rubs all over it and I clean it out every few days. I haven't wanted to get into her tank while she's shedding is why it's dirty. :)

So, uh... Got a shocker this evening. Took romeo into the tub for a warm soak of water to help with the shedding here soon....

Halfway through I lift Romeo up to put her back...


And guess what I spy by the cloaca?

Hemipenes. O.o


Explains why he is so small compared to Valentine.
It's just a shocker cause for ages we thought Romeo was a girl. I guess none of us probed / popped her right. The weird thing is, is that my step-brother, romy's previous owner, had her checked by a 'professional' that said Romy was female.. O.o well... this is pretty solid evidence.

So, for as long as I have known romeo, he has flat out REFUSED solid white rats.
