View Full Version : Replace mouse/introduce new mice to colony?

So I have been attempting to get these mice breeding for a couple months.

The one had babies, but ate all except one. I've heard this is normal. The second mouse is preggo.

The third female is pretty-much as thin as when I got her. Could she be sterile? Should I feed her off and get another female or wait it out?

If you think I should replace her, how does one go about introducing a new mouse to a small colony?

I would just feed her off. I never had problems introducing a new mouse to a small colony. I just toss them in and offer a few hiding spots until they figure it out.

I would replace the mouse as well. One of the things that always worked for us was to introduce a young newly weaned mouse. We've never had a problem doing it that way.

I agree with all that has been said already.. Introducing a young mouse prevents violence.

Thanks. Would a hopper do ok? That's the smallest size live mouse you can buy around here. It's a fair drive to the specific pet-store that sells them but if that's what I need to get then that's what I need to get.

Yes a hopper should be fine.

Yes a hopper should be fine.

As long as it's already weaned or is a weanable age which is at least 3 Weeks old.

if you want a strong healthy mouse it should leave its place of orgin for preferibly 6-8 weeks and intro them in a bath tub and then genraly they will be ok with it...also introing such a yong female could lead to very early pregnacy witch could hinder her tyoungs groth and posibly end her life
