Hey guys got this girl in a trade a while back. I am more of a "normal" guy, but when it comes to boas i love hypos and pastels. So far this girl was a pastel in my eyes, but i have gotten MULTIPLE people telling me she's salmon/hypo because of her bowtie shaped saddles and colouration. I just don't think she's lacking enough dark/black pigment to be a hypo, especially on the tail.
Anybody wanna let me know what this mystery girl could be? She's absoloutely beautiful and when i saw her i had to have her:yes:

Definitely not a hypo
My thoughts exactly. Although the saddles do resemble that of a hypo, she just doesnt cut it out to be one lol. Not sure what explains her colours though

"High red"
The guy bred large pythons, burms, retics, etc.. this was his only boa and he said he had no interest for it. He told me she MIGHT be pastel.
I was almost sure she was pastel and i know there is no such thing as a "high red"
Either way she was beautiful!! I had to find someone that could properly take care of my retic and this guy seemed to have the giant pythons down. i traded my retic to the guy

There is no such thing as "might" be pastel. Pastel is a line bred trait. She looks like she very well may be from a great line of pastels and was probably traded to him for something. Unfortunately he seems to be one of those people who just doesn't care, so you'll never know. I think if you're gonna breed her you oughtta put her with a pattern morph.

I know wildside. She is a real beauty just want to get some opinions on what people think she is. I"ve been told bowtie shaped, detatched saddles are textbook salmon indicators. I'm pretty sure i've seen bowtie detatched saddles in other boas as well though.

She's pretty regardless. :) My girl has a lot of pink like that but she was sold to me as a normal and I've never thought her to be anything else. But I also know without knowing her lineage its almost impossible to know what she is. I don't care. She's a pretty well tempered animal. :)

They can't be het for hypo. Hypo is a homozygous trait and after a little more research "Salmon" which are more orange and are line bred. Somebody who knows what they're talking about once said "All Salmon's are hypos but not all hypos are salmon", hopefully this helps.
Also Moshirimon there are hypos called "Redline" but no "High Red's" that I've ever heard of.

Rogue I have seen normals turn pretty pink as well but none like this girl.
BarelyBreathing I agree
Rmf can I see a pic of your boa?
Wildeside I know about the red line hypos and it doesn't match. I just can't see her being a hypo

LOL I know it's not a Red line hypo. I can't see it being any kind of hypo either, but it's absolutely gorgeous.

You are very right I did not. Notice that at all. How cool would that be. Has your male ever been bred?
Terranaut
08-20-12, 09:34 PM
Yes. Once before I got him. With a normal female. I never saw the babies.
I tried to breed him to my sunglow this year with no luck. He became a bit more stuborn when he was in with the female. I had planned permenent cohabitation and had researched it quite a bit but didn't like his attitude change so I seperated them. Well he has bot come around so I may give them a go again and cohabitate them. It didn't affect her at all. I also now have a bigger enclosure for them. Still undecided.

That's pretty cool, considering that one of your boa's offspring or siblings could be the parent of my girl!

I know these pics were posted on another thread but requests for them were made here as well and I really hope this alleviates all doubt. If not, I will upload her paperwork indicating her genetics. Let me know what you think.

Wow jendee... I think you may have solved it.
She DEFINITELY looks a lot like the red group pastels.
Can't wait till she grows up and her colours increase.

I won't know forsure without knowing her bloodline but RG is the closest so far. Also it would be great to see some pics of your pastel that puts shame to hypos lol!

shes a red group . but from a red group red group breeding so a double dose...but still just a pretty normal boa :)

Beautiful boa!! I did a lot of searching and even though the rg's colouration is almost identical , none of them have the saddle shape. I was told the hourglass shape saddles that aren't rounded out are a textbook indicator of hypo and I really do see it in most hypos. I know 100% that my boa isn't hypo, but what do you thinl explains his strange saddles.
100% not a hypo but bred that boa to increase that butterfly saddle trade mark for a few generations and bam! youve got your own pastel line to name :)

That would be exciting, I'm not really a breeder but it's definitely a future look
