So this rescue I got over the weekend cleared and should be shedding soon. The previous owner says he only eats live mice, in a box with the lights off. Negative ghost rider. I'm Hoping to get him on rats and f/t right away

Well done rescuing this boy looking forwards to see him doing well in your care and I don't know if this will help but try super heating the f/t rats our albino green male won't take them any other way

Good luck, its a burm, they're always hungry, shouldn't be too hard to switch, especially since it already has some age and size.

just an update. He took a F/T weaned rat like a champ. looks like that will be his last as I am moving him up to smalls next feeding. Gotta get some weight on this fella as he is a little thin

I will load some picks tomorrow. He's probably several months old and should be bigger but the guy was feeding 1 live mouse a week. Blah. I fed him the rat and it didn't even leave a bump. When I hold him his skin folds up a little and he feels frail. Pretty obvious he was trying to keep him small but the cool thing is he is as docile as a burm can get. Never hisses or anything.

aww. poor guy. I hate when people do that. why get the darn snake if you can't handle the size?! When I was talking to my boyfriend about bringing home a retic, first thing I said when he said yes was "you know these can get to be over 14', right?". hah. good to hear he's docile though! love the snuggley snakes. (hissing isn't always bad...Pajamas does it while he's exploring a room, then quiets down as soon as he's done)

Burms are always hungry lol. (I have one that thought it was a finicky royal for a while) If he's undersized, I'd go up a size each feeding until he gets one that leave a nice bump. Don't try to stuff him. He's small enough that with proper feeding and schedule he'll quickly grow and catch up. My finicky burm was about 3x smaller in length and girth than her clutchmate for a long time because she was so finicky to switch. She's only really started growing in the past few months and is quickly catching up to her sister She's still smaller in girth but is almost as long as her sister. She's still small but she catching up. I fully expect her to be about the same size as my bigger burm. I just hope I don't have the same feeding issue with her when I switch her to rabbits. >.>

Good luck with him! He should be an amazing animal for you to keep :)

Nice to see you had no problems with the switch over looking forwards to seeing the pics

Here is a pic the first day I got him home. He was a little dehydrated so I let him soak a bit and then I put him in his set up and misted him. I have never power fed so I wont do the same here. With no lump though I will feed him at the end of the week a small rat and see how it works out

Mate that's a beauty of a burm you have there try giving him a soak with 1 part gatorade ( I think that's how its spelt ) to ten parts water its the best way I've found to rehydrate a snake it sounds wierd but works wonders. And I agree with Rogue about building the food size the last thing this snake needs is to regurgitate good luck mate and keep us posted

I'm going to baby him as far as feeding his goes...he didn't even strike at the prey, literally just opened his mouth. Lol

Lucky you! Mine all go ballistic lol, but I have a BRB that feeds the exact same way. I would keep him on smalls for a few feedings then you could probably move him to mediums.
