I follow two snake / reptile breeders on Facebook - one of them just posted this little desert male! Gah! I want him!

Just so you know, desert females have NEVER laid a fertile clutch of eggs, and many die in the process.

Axanthic Killer bee and a Pied. I want a pumpkin pied SOOOO much...but I can't afford a snake like that right now >.< normal pied is ok too, though ;D

Oh poor things. :( i just like the color on him.

i know some morphs have genetic problems - Spiders with the head wobble for instance.

I thought it was odd when the breeder said the female was 500$ compared to the male being 1200$...

Kaetlinv

he just posted this one as well - I like the patterning but not so much how pale it is. I don't know why but I have a thing for gold colored animals >XD

IMO that's $500 too much for that desert female and about $1000 to much for the male.

Kaetlinv

these guys are kind of over priced..... I'll never buy from them, but it's nice seeing their pretties. :D

mykee
08-17-12, 03:29 PM
Overpriced is a relative term: too much money for you? Are they selling for market value?
Most breeders know exactly where the market is and rarely "overprice" anything.

Kaetlinv
08-17-12, 03:33 PM
Well, both in this case mykee. Most everything is too much money for me - however some of the prices just seem to be extreme, however i understand I'm not in the loop about all prices and my judgement on 'overpriced' is mainly personal opinion. However sometimes I do see some of their morphs for less on other sites / from other breeders. It's also relative to the area - and they're located in a different area than I am. The breeders I'm going to be close with have many morphs for much cheaper than I've seen these guys sell theirs for. Perhaps where I live there is less demand? I'm not sure.

I got a line on a one year old ivory BP. I can get him for $300 . Best price I found online so far is $700 for hatchling. Should know this week if I have him. Will post pics asap.

Interesting does anybody happen to know why they are infertile?

iBaman

probably for the same reason champagnes are. something wrong with the order of genes.

Champagne x champagne was proven out this year. It's nothing much to look at. I saw pics fresh out of the egg and it's like an all white snake again with some pinkish hues to it.

don't most of them die though, cause they're too weak or something? I know champagne x spider everything is dead...

I honestly don't know as the champ x champ is brand new. Only been done once that I know of.

What is your source for champ x spider?

Interesting.

It's odd that it's a cross that does it. Could just be some seriously bad luck at this time. They wouldn't even make it out of the egg otherwise if it was the cross in my opinion.

iBaman
08-17-12, 06:20 PM
this is true. Hopefully someone else will try, cause I personally think it's an interesting looking morph. The champagne x champagne i heard from a breeder friend...i think it's been up to this year, none have survived, but once again, that could be bad luck too. maybe the incubator wasn't hot enough, or maybe mom was disturbed before she laid....who knows. snakes be crazy.

I find a lot of people across the internet use a single clutch or baby as pure FACT and not enough trial and error. Also if it comes from one of the "big guys" then it's also FACT. If over a few more clutches nothing happens then eh...means people just suck at breeding ball pythons lol.

It's a plain looking animal. I never liked the look of them anyway.

Champ pastels and champ enchis are the ones I kind of like. Still a drab snake though.

pieds are lovely. haha. i think some of them are awesome looking, but wouldn't ever pay that much money for them.

Why not? You paid $300 for your retic...it's like $300 for a pied...I can get males up here for no more than $500...states has to be cheaper....if I find one for you for cheap would you buy it? hahaha

iBaman
08-17-12, 07:02 PM

So, mykee you do consider these deserts overpriced, but you also say that most breeders know market values.
SO...why would this person want to charge so much for a snake that any normal person...normal price range, or normal as in knowing about ball python market...want to pay that price?

I see what you're saying here...

OH btw to the OP, i like that second photo. That bp kind of reminds me of a carpet python.

Melissa, the simple fact that all females are infertile kills the entire project.
What kind of clutches are you going to get when yo have to throw all the females in the freezer or sell them to pet stores for $25?
Some breeders are banking on the fact that the female infertility issues are not well known yet and are trying to sell their deserts to an uneducated buyer.
Sick.

Aaron; I wouldn't be so proud of your potion, it's the ugliest one I've ever produced...

Corey is an awesome guy. He's been a good personal friend of mine for ten plus years. I'm over at his house it seems like once a week. If I'm not mistaken, that is a genetic stripe red axanthic.

Aaron; tough luck, sucka! He's all yours warts and all!
No tradesies or take-backs.

Went to the northwest metro reptile expo today! Oh my lord snakes and goodies galore!

depending on how much I get paid - and whether I can convince my mom or not, this pastel clown male will be mine! 80$ and I believe the 1408 is his weight in grams. he looks like he could weigh 1408 at least.

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/582564_10152029098445472_1425253352_n.jpg

I fell in love with him, not sure why >XD This was the only picture I could get - the guy at the stand was reluctant to get him out because he hadn't been held at all that day and at the time he was holding a male albino BP for showing purposes.

What makes it better? their store isn't far from where I live :D I just have to hope he doesn't go before i'm able to buy him (if I get the means to)

Cool looking animal.

Do understand that that is a pastel POSSIBLE HET clown snake. It isn't a pastel clown according to it's label.

Kaetlinv
08-18-12, 07:30 PM
I wasn't too concerned about the clown part. Not getting him to breed a clown - just want a cool looking snake :)

i liked the color on him and the odd contrast of color on his sides. Has some neat patterning. :)

(One day I plan to breed - but quoting a woman I overheard telling someone viewing some of her snakes, "I don't breed for anything specific. I breed for pets." :) I just wanna see what my girl would some day make.)

I wasn't looking for a specific type - just looking for a snake that I liked. :) I saw a bunch of other pastels - all babies though. The fact he's a bit of a more mature snake is what interests me most.

Depending on how much I get paid for dogsitting will determine whether or not I'll talk to my mom about getting another snake. If it's not a hatchling, it will go over with her better because I wouldn't have to be there every week on the dime to make sure it wasn't hungry, since (hopefully...stupid school district and transcripts...) I'll be off to college soon and I probably wouldn't be able to. 2 weeks isn't as difficult to manage.

I've got the room for a third snake - i know i'm getting paid a minimum of 200$ (technically house sitting for two people, not sure if the 25$ a day is both of them combined or each of them individually) this next wednesday, and I could easily get a set up for a third snake and buy that one specifically with 200$, however I'd rather not spend all the money so I can pay for the feeders for a while on my own. so if I get more than 200$ I'll talk with my mom about it, and hope these guys still have this pastel male. the owner of the stand seemed pretty convinced they would still have him if he didn't sell at the expo. I have their card so i'll be able to check in on him.

My mom will be in a VERY good mood here soon considering I know that her boyfriend is going to be proposing to her on her birthday (or the day after, it depends. they're doing The Hood to Coast relay run and he is proposing at the end), and she has no clue (in fact she doesn't think he will ever propose! haha). so she will be very happy soon and I think I might take advantage of that ;)

If I am ever to own a Ball Python I would love to have a killer clown. I don't know why but something about them really catches my eye. I love seeing everyones Bps but I just don't know if they're the right snake for me. I might just wait a few years for the price to come down on these guys and then get one. :)

I think you're right mykee.
I forget, i just know i saved these pics becuase they were just amazing snakes that i loved.
here are two more pics of some of my favs from corey's page.

I've never been into albinos, or too many morphs or anything. The black and the silver i just looooove though!

mykee
08-19-12, 06:22 AM
The black and silver looking animal is a red axanthic; Coreys own line of axanthics. It's the only line of axanthic that doesn't end up looking like a normal as an adult.

Kaetlinv
08-19-12, 10:19 AM
Axanthics are very pretty. :3
I saw several at the expo yesterday. But once i saw that male i could barely be torn away to look at anything else. My friends and sister had to practically drag me out so i could drive us home!! Haha

yup, i know mykee. I luuuurve them! Maybe at some point i'll be able to buy one *lol*
Back when i was into ball python genetics i drooled over them a lot.
So many breeders for bps though.

I'm going for green western hognoses myself one day. I do love axanthic though.

There are a few royal morphs I really like but only about 3 at this time I'd love to have in my collection but will probably never get. I'd love to have a bumble bee but the whole wobble issue and my personal thoughts on it keep me from putting this animal on my 'want' list. Mystic Potions are beauty at it's simplest IMHO. I'm usually not fond of light colored animals, but there's just something about an MP that says I must have one lol. It's on my want list, but I'm willing to wait to see if pricing drops in the next few years, when I decide to start buying morphs (I'd rather have a different animal than just a different morph). The other one that just fascinates me is one Mike Wilbanks produced and calls an eclipse. It's unusual look is what draws me to it (and I usually don't care for pied animals). If he can clean up the pattern a bit, it's really going to be a stunner. Yet it will never reach my 'want' list because I doubt the price would ever be attainable for me. lol Besides, if I were to ever have a pied animal it would be a retic. Again, I'm not fond of pieds, but that is one sexy beast! :D

Definitely not a "White Snake..."

http://citysnakes.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/dsc0173.jpg

Lots of Champ combos hatch out white-ish but go through a drastic colour change over the months. They are pretty awesome! Its a common opinion but I think those who think Champ combos stay white have only seen a hatchling pic or two on the net...

Also I'm pretty sure the Champ Spider, Champ Sable and Super Champ are all fatal combos. Not just results of a single clutch either. This is a common occurrence.
