View Full Version : My new little guy or girl
Some of you may have read my intro, and saw that i planned on buying this snake this morning. I did, so i snapped a few mediocre pictures with my iPhone. So far its been mostly just hiding in the aspen i laid down, i figure its just getting used to being somewhere new. It was labeled "Albino Corn Snake". After reading about "morphs" i honestly had no clue if it was albino or a morph or whatever, so maybe some of you could shed some light on that. Also i'm going to research to try to find out the gender of this snake, so if you have tips on that i appreciate it! Anyway, on to pictures!

i just did some reading, and would a pinky every 7 days be ideal for this snake or am i way off? if theres really know way of knowing without knowing weight, ill find a scale tomorrow to weigh the lil guy/gal. Thanks :)
I would take to a pet store or a vet an see if they could sext for you. As far as feeding goes a pinky every 5-7 days is perfect. I believe it is an albino

Congrats on your first snake! Corns make a most excellent first snake. I always recommend a feeding schedule of every 5 days for these little tykes. It may be an albino but wit pics make it look a little dark.
As far as sexing, you can always take it to a vet to see if you really want to know. There are a couple of ways to find out the sex...popping and probing, but I don't recommend a new person to attempt either method because if done wrong, you can hurt your animal. I myself leave it up to the more experienced and professionals.
Good luck and remember to give it a few days to settle in. I personally don't handle until my new one have had one or two meals.

Cute little guy! Your new snake is not an albino though, as it looks like he has black eyes in the pics you posted. It is hard to tell beyond that with the pics being a little dark.
Thanks for the replies! I was skeptical about it being albino, because of the eyes and he's not really as light as other albinos I've seen

Looks like it could be an Anery Type B, but better pics would help.
Definitely not an Amelanistic (albino).

Im going to try getting better pictures once it's more comfortable. It's been mostly hiding in the aspen, once it's out and moving around I'll try for pictures. :)
He just ate a pinky, he went for it after a few seconds of me moving it around. How long should I wait to handle the snake? I've seen 48 hrs, but I didn't know if that's alright for a corn. Thanks again :)

Wait at least a day......but it depends on prey size. that corn will eat larger prey than pink mice.....

Do you mean in the future, or currently it should eat larger prey? I know it will in the future, buy It isn't that big of a snake (yet), and Mr. Pet Shop guy told me pinks were what he's on. But, I'm betting you know better than me so I'm all ears lol.

Try at least peach fuzzies.......that snake is a year old and rather small for a yearling corn......IMHO
Prey items that are slightly larger than it's girth are appropriate.

Thanks for the help! I'm a total noob, and I wanna do everything right, so I appreciate the advice.

I would handle no sooner than 48 hours after feeding. I typically wait 3 days after feeding mine, but I do an 8-9 day schedule with large meals.
In terms of morph, he's definitely not Albino. He is Anerythristic at least; he may be a Ghost (AneryxHypomelanistic). I believe mine is a Ghost, and he's a little lighter than yours, so yours may be straight Anery. For a comprehensive guide to all things Cornsnake (in terms of color, at least), check out this site (http://iansvivarium.com/morphs/species/elaphe_guttata/)!
And finally, congrats on your new acquisition! :)

I have a mexican black king and its just about that same size. I feed him 2 or 3 fuzzies every Monday, which are basically one size larger than pinkies. Pinkies are basically for newborns. Just for a size comparison... Here is my baby BRB and she is like a month old and she gets pinkies...
That is about the size of mine. I guess I'll try stepping up the prey size for the next time I feed it.
had the little one out for a few minutes today, got to snap a few more pictures.
