i picked up this girl at a show a few weeks ago , she was not on display due to temperment and being in shed and she bit my palm at the show while i checked her over so the guy said 60$ out the door . I had to use gloves for a couple weeks as she was a little cobra , but now after the 4th handling session no more gloves are needed but i still have to be careful . Can't pick her up without the gloves or hook yet , but her temperment has mellowed so much latley that she is pretty calm. she is already taking FT rat fuzzies . I was told she is 100% IJ , but i think there may be a little jungle in there too .

I love how the markings on her head look like an arrow! Congrats on the new IJ

It could be that the camera isn't picking up her colors very well, but she looks very much like one of my caramel coastals. However, the pattern "fades" toward the belly, much like an IJ. Hard to tell, but beautiful little girl regardless! :)

I'm new here, so please be nice! I recently brought home my adult coastal, I have not measured her myself yet but was told she's about 9-10ft and around 5-6 years. I've owned snakes before and did tons of research on the species before actually purchasing her. My only problem is that I've NEVER been bitten by a snake before. I got her because she was so docile every time I handled her and I fell in love with her. I'm sure I'll get bit eventually, but is there anything to compare it to? I dont know what to expect and kinda wish it would just happen already so I can get it over with. Im not nervous handling her, I always approach her with confidence and I've only had one slightly close encounter, but she realized it was me so didn't actually bite. I know snake bites depend on certain things, but I've never been through it before. Anything y'all can tell me? :) thanks!

Make no mistake , they have teeth and the bigger the snake , the bigger the teeth. A 9 foot snake would keep me on my toes , and bite might need stitches. it stings , and alot of it is shock from it happening so fast and they dont always let go so its good to have a friend and a little vinigar or vodka around as a few drops can make them release. i do hope you dont handle her alone. id guess her teeth are well over a 1/4 inch if not longer.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear that. Any ideas what happened?

I do know that if Sero ever bit me, it wouldn't be a day at the park. I have heard about rubbing alcohol and hand sanitizer helping the snake release. I live alone, so I do handle her alone. It is nature for a snake to bite in defense, so that's why I'm sure I'll go through it eventually, just curious as to what to expect. A friend has a 13ft Burmese he's owned for 7 years and it only just bit him a few months ago, so maybe I'll be lucky for a while. Thanks for your response, and I'm so sorry to hear about your snake!

It kinda depends if it is a defensive strike or a feeding response. The former feels like getting attacked by a staple gun (lol) and is more shocking than anything else. A feeding response can be much more serious, since the snake will likely be trying to constrict you and it may tear some skin. Even still, most bites are not that serious, even from a snake that size, but it will probably bleed quite a bit and swell up. Not trying to scare you, you may never get bit and that would be great. I have to say though, the bottle of whiskey I keep in the snake room has come in quite handy a few times ;)

Lol, thanks Necrias! Im hoping if it happens it won't be the feeding response type of bite. I've seen pictures and video of other types of snake bites and I've heard little snakes just feel like Velcro. I honestly think of Sero ever struck and bit me, she'd release right away. She's extremely docile and that's one of the reasons I got her. (wasn't a big
Fan of snakes before, especially 9-10 footers.. Now the small ones scare me lol). I've just been wondering what it woul be like and if there is anything to compare it to. I've had my fair share of pain, so I'm sure I'll be ok. Thanks so much for your response!

Congrats on your ij. I never handle mine in shed not surprising she was bitey.
