Hope you don't mind criticism.....

The production quality of your short videos is great, however there is inaccuracies in your commentary.

For instance,,. Farmers did not release corn snakes into their crops.

The term corn snake was coined by farmers who found the snakes in their corn bins out in the barns.

The short on the Savannah Monitor was a bit off target too.

I'd probably be doing them along with him, and show him how to do it right, as well as marketing properly.

If I caught him spamming, I smack him on the head (playfully, probably more of a rough tussling of the hair), telling him that he's annoying a lot of grown-ups, and he needs to go outside and cut the grass.

Granted...my oldest is only 16 months old, so it would be a few years before I am faced with this scenario, but I don't think I would deal with it any differently.

I have two teenagers. At the age this kid is at, you try to be supportive when they are so motivated and show initiative about anything besides playing video games! There are a few issues with some of his technical information, but the production value is good, and he is obviously passionate about animals. Seems like something we would be interested in fostering as a community. If we dont encourage young kids who are into reptiles, who is going to? I mean, we are a reptile forum, so it makes sense that this might at least possibly be interesting to some people. In my opinion, its the same thing as the expo guys who only come on here once a year to push their expos.

First of all, its freakin' youtube. There's one reason people get on youtube: entertainment. Just like someone mentioned in another thread, in regards to reptiles, its dominated by people only interested in seeing feeding videos. Granted, if used right, there has been some good videos put out by some good organizations (Ex: RARR), but for the most part, one does not upload on Youtube to educate; it is only to show-off.

Its great that they're are passionate about reptiles, but you know what? They should get involved with a herp society and actually do some outreach stuff (in the REAL world) instead of boosting their ratings on "likes" on Youtube. The general public cannot interact with herps through a computer monitor. Its great to post pics and videos, but that only goes so far.

I'm all for fostering an interest in herps in young people, but in the right ways. I don't personally feel this is one of them. The mere fact that the only participation this person did on this forum was make two posts only to promote himself. He shows ZERO interest in learning in asking questions. ZERO interest in receiving critique of his work. It is all "Look at me. I'm awesome. Spread the word." I find it arrogant and disrespectful to this community.

Iask you, is THAT the kind of behavior we should be fostering?

If this was on my forum, the posts would have been deleted by now. This member needs to show a little "group" participation before subjecting us to his spam.

Ok look, I dont want to get into any big thing about it, I just tend to be a little more empathetic than most I guess. This is not a youtube video however. This is a promo video, and by the looks of the format and production, one that he is probably using in the hopes of getting some sort of TV or web show with sponsorship. What that means is quite simply 'hits'. What this kid shows is a pretty decent grasp of marketing. Those headings, spelling, 'fronting' silliness all equal more talk about it and therefore more hits. Thats what sponsors look for. I understand its annoying, but again, the fact that it works is maybe more annoying.

What makes you so sure this kid doesnt do those things with the herp society in his area or outreach stuff? He seems like the kind who might just do that. Maybe he is so busy with the animal societies in his area he doesnt have any extra time to respond to all the forums. ;) Plus, again, how is it different than the expo guys? They show zero interest in our forum, they dont ask questions, and they dont stick around for critiques. Just sayin...

He did have a youtube in his introductions thread. I guess I was thinking this was related.

I don't deny it. But we have rules:

5. Advertisements are not allowed except in the classifieds section. Generally speaking, posts made specifically for the promotion of a website, product or service are considered advertising or, at least, posts made that unnecessarily send people to a website that you are in some way affiliated with. It does not matter if it is a commercial website, a personal website, a non profit website, etc. We do authorize and/or sell advertisements on a case by case basis. If you are interested in utilizing this option, please contact us.

It may be the case. I personally doubt it, but I acknowledge the possibility.

For the record, I don't like it when the expo guys do it either. Their posts get deleted on our boards. Some disagree, but that was the decision our mods/admins came to. If people want to advertise and not post, they gotta pay. And we have a few members that do that.

But I'm not a mod here, so I can't say much for that.

This right here is why I didn't delete his post.

Another forum he posted on right after he posted here deleted it right away.

I do wish he would come back though, we can't "help" him or his show if he never returns.

That is true.

Using Occam's razor principle, the person's age and guestimated maturity level (though I will admit I did not view the view the videos because I didn't want to give him any more hits...plus I'm at work), and the fact that he has not returned yet suggests to me that he is not interested in being "helped." Until he returns and clears the air, I stand by my earlier opinion that he only posted to use the site for free advertising.

i know this isnt the point of this topics.. but dont discourage them from playing video games... eSports are becoming amazingly huge sport and people can earn a TON of money a year... i play a game called starcraft, and i watch pros play, they can earn up to 100,000 a year... just saying:P

They can make even more than that selling drugs, and I find that about as addictive and likely to provide them with a future. Plus, I dont discourage them from playing, I merely discourage them from letting it consume their every waking moment. ;)

hahahaha sorry about that guys!! I didn't mean to offend anyone and constructive criticism is always well taken! I'll delete the post to not annoy anyone! It wasn't meant to just post and leave and let everyone just see. Theres 3 people that try and work things, the host isn't one of them. I am very interested in snakes myself so reading all the forums and what not helps me gain more knowledge on these beautiful creatures! Again, I'll delete the post tomorrow but I'm leaving it up for a day so you can see that I really meant no harm! Sorry about that ! I'm def in here to stay though.

Absolutely! Not only do I want to because I work on the videos but I have marveled at snakes ever since I was young and ever since meeting the host ( Mitchy B) I have really gotten to get close with the animal. I can proudly say I will hold a number of ball pythons and even a white lipped... granted it was for a second. But it happened hahaha
