What is a fair time to give as a health guarantee on a three week old cornsnake that has shed and has had three meals? I know there is no hard and fast answer but I acquired some baby corns in a collection buy out and need to know what to offer.

Most people offer delivery guarantee. All up to you. I wouldn't go beyond 3-5 days since they shouldn't even be handled for a few days. Tough call

This because you never know what kind of weird things people do with their animals. When I had my shop I used to guarantee the animal from the register to the door just because of that reason.

Then Delivery guarantee is fair.

Delivery guarantee is most common.
When I shipped up some snakes from the states a few years ago I got I believe a 48 hour period where I had to present pictures and inform the breeder of a DOA. After that, it's anyone's game. Delivery is only fair because past that anything can happen.

Once the customer opens the box, and takes the animal out, it is in their hands and out of your control. Anything can happen; their dog could run and bit the thing's head off, they could give it mites from any one of their own animals, etc. Generally, delivery guarantee is all you should be concerned about.
Anything pre-existing (genetic defect, cosmetic injuries, etc.) should have been addressed prior. If it has indeed been proven that the snake had an illness prior before being shipped, you can handle the situation accordingly. But this is rarely the case for a reputable person, because who would knowingly ship a sick snake?

They are coming to pick it up.

Well then they should be able to see the snake is healthy. Use mine: "If it dies before you get out the door I'll make it right" ;)

I would still treat it similarly: once the animal leaves with them, it is in their hands and out of your control.
Now, if you know the people well, and are close to them, you could probably determine the cause if something happened, and just to be nice, make amends. Of course, you're under no obligation, but going that extra mile to help out can help the reputation. Very thin line between being nice and being a pushover I suppose. Sometimes you gotta stick your TOS as a disclaimer, but evaluate each situation case-by-case.

That is your typical PIA haggling customer and you've reached the "This is what I'm offering, take it or leave it threshold". That right there is the type of person that will nickel and dime you to death and if something does happen to her snake you can bet she'll be blowin' up your phone, beatin' down your door & posting ads on fauna's BOI about you. Lay down the law and you'll know how serious she is real fast ;)

LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!! I didn't notice. I think she probably meant she wanted the ad to be offered by a registered breeder. *insert facepalm*

Just tell her it's this way...
I give you a healthy snake and you get NO guarantee other than it's feeding. If something happens to it in a week then your SOL. Just be sure to leave yourself open to help her with any issues that may occur but you won't be replacing an animal or money back if something happens.

This is good advice. Product Support always makes customers more comfortable with the purchase.

Unfortunately that's not quite how kijiji works. It asks if you are offering it as a) the owner or b) a registered breeder.

Very solid advice and what I will be offering on every sale.
I am going to exercise my right to refuse this sale because I just don't feel right about it. I value honesty when I do business and feel it may be lacking here. I Aldo don't need the headache of a "PIA" ( whatever that means) customer.

you didn't think she'd figure it out what we all already knew?
Yup, what Aaron said. Once that animal is no longer in my care, I don't care the reason, I don't want it back. Who knows what that cesspool you call a collection is harbouring; a nasty viral RI that infects everything? mites? ticks?
I do however, guarantee that the animal is healthy, properly sexed and an established eater when you receive it. What you do to it in your care is beyond my control.
That said, I will bend over backwards to offer aftercare to those that request it.

So a...about that mystic...will she eat chicken wings? I don't want to feed it rodents. Can I keep it in a 2 gallon plastic ice cream tub? Cleaned out of course with some air holes. Do grass clippings make a good substrate?

I think that's fair and really all you CAN do.
When I picked up my GTP there were 5 more in the same clutch. They were only a few weeks old and had maybe eaten 3 meals. I knew the risks of purchasing an animal so newly established and though mine thrived I know of 2 that aren't doing so hot.
whether or not the breeder should have let them go is one thing but if you mishandle it when you get it home hey, that's your problem they gave you the advice you didn't choose to follow it. Tough nuggies

If you feed it chicken wings it will never get aggressive...

Do I know you?
You must have me mistaken with someone else.
You of all people should know that I say things to make myself look good on the forums, when it reality I could care less about either my animals or my customers.
You're on your own, chump.

Hey Aaron, I wouldn't bother paying him. He says right in bold that no matter what he won't take it back.
