Hello, everyone. My name is Onael. My family and I are new to keeping snakes as pets. We are happy to welcome Spencer into our home. He is a two month old California Kingsnake. I hope to gain a lot of knowledge on this forum.

Thank you for the welcoming. This is Spencer in a basic setup.

20 gallon tall tank (used to house fish)
Custom home-made screen lid
Aspen chips
A few hides
Small UTH
The fluorescent lighting

I want to build a large enclosure for him. I can't wait to get started, but what would the affects be - good or bad - as he is only 18 inches long? The "snake guy" at my local pet store said it is 2 1/2 months old. I don't know if it is a boy or a girl yet.

Large enclosures for babies can be totally fine, just make sure you give them LOTS of hiding spots. I have put my young snakes into adult size vivs and provided about 80-90% coverage of the floor space with hides and fake foliage etc and had no issues :)
