Well... We have a head shots thread. One of the coolest things about Redtails is their tails. I realize there are probably more python people here but I think there are enough boa people to justify this thread ;) Also, if you're like me and have large uncooperative models then this is a good way to show off another piece of them, lol.

This is Ivan's tail, and the real reason for starting this thread. I just adore that funky saddle with the crescent moon in it. He is just so clean and awesome from his head to his tail! <3

Well I can't exactly call them "Orangetails" now can I? I referred to them somewhere as normal BCI's. In this area they're all marketed as redtails :smug:

Yes I can, because that's what BCI in pet shops are commonly referred to as. "Orangetail" is a selectively bred line.

Yes, because pet shops are the end all be all of naming snakes. It's purely a marketing ploy.

Let me break this down for you guys...

Redtails = Generalization: especially for noobs who bought their first snake at a pet shop (which is where most most noobs buy them). This here is a forum on the internet where noobs frequent everyday, some of them register, some only lurk. Now from reading this thread alone they'll be educated on what may actually be a "REDtail", why mine can't be called "Orangetail", and can then actually start learning about all the different BC's out there.

Oh and BTW in the OP I said "One of the best things about redtails" not "Hey checkout my redtails" Would you like to have an argument with me about that?

That's hilarious.
It's nice to see your efforts to suport the chain petstores, rather then the herp community on setting the record straight.

Do you wish you had a red tail?
Did you get swindled in to buying a bci labeled as a red tail?

Since you say you know the difference why did you miss lable them, noob.

Where did I say Chain Pet stores?

How am I not supporting "setting the record straight", I made this thread didn't I?

Oh yeah and AND BCI being commonly sold as "Redtails" is such a gigantic issue that it's putting a nuclear damper on the Boa realm of the herp industry. OMG, WHAT HAVE I DONE????

Once again... in my OP I DID NOT say "Look at MY redtails" did I?

ahhhh the "common" boa constrictor. Still a beauty. it bugs me how the popularity of a pet will lead some to believe it is less amazing as a species.

Not referring to you guys of you guys, just saying though many of the most beautiful species go for granted, because they're just too "common"

Don't get me wrong a nice clean bci Colombian is still an amazing species to keep, but labeling them as "red tails" is just plain ignorant.

Here's the thing... I made this thread. It's titled "Tail Shots". I then made reference to the tails of "Redtails" as justification in starting this thread>I then posted pics of my BCI's. You're the one who went high and mighty technicalnerd on me. It's ok, I'm willing to overlook all of it because I understand that you're one of those extreme localefans (not that that's a bad thing). I meant in the years to come, they will still be readily available. People like you are slowly destroying this hobby. You keep common boa constrictors, there is nothing wrong with that they're awesome snakes.

As you can see no one cares about tail shots because this thread is just full of you truing to justify your reasons for mislabeling snakes.

Why would anyone post in this thread now after you stepped up to be the self-appointed name/color patrol? You are clearly an e-bully as well as an uber localefreak. As for me "justifying my reasons for mislabeling snakes" you clearly are not willing to look at any of the evidence I've presented, must be because the truth hurts. God forbid you be wrong in a thread where you accuse someone else of being wrong! You are flailing around making accusations and then backpedaling in the same paragraph for crying out loud  Telling me I'm slowly destroying the hobby because I keep common boa constrictors and there's nothing wrong with that?????? Nothing wrong with keeping commons, they're quite nice, especially yours.

I can sum this whole argument in one sentence.

You call colombian bci's red tails
I say that you're wrong, they're not red tails.
You start being ignorant, so I come back.

Thanks I really need to take more pictures of Jade (my Mixed locality GTP) her colour change is complete, it took her 4 days to go from all yellow with green flecks to a full vibrant green.

Poor little thing though we moved houses during her shed cycle and she ended up with a truely AWFUL shed which was very uncharacteristic of her since she has had perfect sheds from day one, she ended up having 2 bad sheds in a row despite our best efforts but she is shed-free and has been moved to rats (finally)

Guyanna have a more lavender/ pink hue, with narrow saddles, suris have a more silver grey with brod saddles.

Since there is no natural boarder they do hybridize in the wild.

I'll accept that but I made a post after being questioned about it where I said I've referred to them as normal BCI's (I think it was in the headshots thread) and then went into an explanation about the term "Redtails" being the generalization. One thing is for certain. You can't come out of this thread without knowing that there is a major difference between Red & Common ;)

This is Benji, my RTB... well it was sold to me as a RTB, i have honestly no idea BCC or BCI, or what... the breeder told me he should be between 5 and 7 foot max, but like i said, i dont really know... all i know is he is the biggest sweet heart every 1 of only 2 of my 20 snakes that has shown no agression/defensivness... also not the best pics either, maybe ill get a better one of his tail.

I got some pretty sweet shots of Katana this weekend. Well I dunno if I got sweet shots or she's just a sweet looking snake. This is my Common BCI *gives Jay evil eye* that I want to pr with an Azabache/IMG male.

katana is awesome!

Jay seriously...you went over the top for no reason. Why would you post a bloody gecko tail? Nevermind, you don't have an answer i want to read.
Wildside you handled all that very well. You took the high road easily.

ANyway, enough boas. Here's my corn snake *lol*
He has a crooked tail! I barely noticed until he got big and fat.

Western hognose tail!

This is a pic i took before taking him to the vet for a plugged scent gland. He's doing well now. Anyway, point was, his coloring is cool.

Since we have attracted many boa keepers to this thread, here's a bonus shot of my bolivian boa

that bolivian boa is stunning!

Did someone say gecko? it's more of a body picture, but his tail's there. Honey, my leachie, is fired up in the picture.

@jaleely, it was a joke, relax.

I rescued that little girl and removed her tail to prevent any further damage.

Your bca is B-E-Autiful.

@ moshirimon: Next time I get her out I'll measure for sure but I know she's over 7. That is a fresh shed pic, she really is that dark. I'm looking into getting an Azabache/IMG male for her but the price on them is :Wow:

@ Jaleely: Don't worry about me and Mr. Tail Color Cop. We good :D

And I'm soooo in love with that Amarali!!!! I'm looking to work with a few more locales in the future. Amarali's and Longicauda's are at the top of my list.

Fiiiiine. I'm just being sensitive to online stuff lately anyway. =P

I've always loved reptiles, amphibians, etc, but for some reason i got into snakes and went crazy. i don't have any geckos. I know a lot of people online have them. I know the tokays are ornery. that's about all i know. lol

I should get some tail shots of my dumeril's and my sand boas. I got some baby garters and noticed with the first shed that the male has the tip of his tail that is like my corn snake. Probably be more evident as he grows. I feel like when it's the tip like that it must have been broken or something at some point, instead of a kink.

Here is Cloud's tail, I love how the tip is so much more red than the rest.

Unfortunately not the clearest pictures ever, I have an awful camera and don't use it much so I'm still figuring it out
