Hog Island Color Change

Just thought I'd ask, because it's something that I've been wondering about for awhile. Do you find that your Hog's color changes more or less depending on temperature?

If my snake is on the warm side, he will start to lighten as soon as 4pm. If he is on the cool side, sometimes I take him out and he's still dark as late as 11pm. If he's light by 4pm, it's not like he gets darker if he moves to his cooler side, it's really just seems like the color change is delayed if he's in his cool hide.

Do you notice a similar trend with your Hogs?

Yes mine is the same way. HIBs are hypomelanistic and are known for their ability to change from light to dark :)

Thanks for your response Allan. Yeah, I know about their ability to change color, I was mostly wondering about how the temperature affected the rate of color change. Do you see a big difference in the time yours changes color depending on temperature? Like with mine it's a average difference of more than 6 hours, is yours the same?

Actually no, mine usually stays in either of the phases for extended periods of time, regardless of the temperature. I usually only notice a difference when say I take her out in the morning, then again in the evening. Your little one is quite interesting :)

it has to do also with tempature ,sunrise and sunset when in the wild while they are hunting for prey . I beleive they are darker in the morning to absorb heat faster and longer so they can hunt for prey for longer periods. On their home island Hogs eat alot of migrating seabirds , so they stuff themselves when the birds are available just prior to breeding season and this is why they have such a great feeding response.
