In one of my corn snake clutches that was hatching yesterday l found one of the eggs that was slit but the neonate had not come out,it was the only egg left,so l opened up the egg and found a neonate with two heads! unfortunately the snake had just died,or fortunately depending which way you look at it,How common is this?l've seen this in books and on the nett, but has anybody else had this themselves?

I have seen pictures and heard stories of this happening farily often with snakes, some survive and live ok but it depends where the split is and what organs are involved. :)
It never happened if you don't have pics.

its rare and its even rarer that they survive, but with as many clutches produced in captivity these stories pop up every so often.

I'd be interested in buying that freak snake if it's available. I was unsure how to private message you, so forgive me if this is to forward. Please feel free to email me calvincadaver@aol.com or simply reply here. Thanks. And my apologies again if this was a forum taboo or annoyance.

With so many clutches of corns produced each year, 2 headed hatchlings are becoming more common, however, them living seems to be a rarity. Like Rob said, for one to live seems to be dependent on where the split is and what organs are involved. I only know of 2 live snakes that are two headed. At least I believe one still lives. Bob Clark had/has a two headed king and Ben Siegel has a two headed milk at the moment....aptly named Medusa lol
Thanks for sharing the pictures.
Edit to add: I'm not familiar with breeding and hatchlings at all, but that dark spot down on the body makes me wonder if maybe that would be the cause of it not living?

Two-headed animals of any species is rare, and they usually don't survive. The only two-headed reptile that I know of are Zak and Wheezie the bearded dragon(s)- I instantly thought of them when I saw this post. They are about 4 years old. I hatched out a 7 headed hydra-corn last season. It's quite the handful to work with...
