my carpet is scheduled to be delivered before noon tomorrow. How long do you guys recommend leaving it alone in its enclosure before i start handling?

I would give it a week to settle in.

I give a week, then feed, if it eats then 72 hours later i would handle it, if it doesnt feed give it another week and repaet until it has eaten for you

Personally, I do not see a reason to wait so long. A healthy snake will eat right way just hours after being shipped. Everything I have ever gotten delivered was offeed a meal that same day. We got a group of Carpet pythons imported from over seas and they all ate the day they came in with no problem. Handling wise, well you obviously handled it to put it in its cage. Handling for short periods of time is fine a couple of days after it eats.

While the adice given is not bad advice, it is overly cautious and not needed. I can see if was a wild caught import, but this is a captive bred carpet that looks well established.

This is a subject that has been argued back and forth all over this forum so many times. Some people are in one camp and some are in the other - there is no "right" way as i see it. :)

i would leave it in peace and quiet for 7 days, then offer food

only after its ate 3 or 4 feeds would i consider handling

i give my snakes at least 3 days to digest their prey before handling

i'm sure you will be pleased with your new carpet,as they're great snakes to keep

cheers shaun

Thats why I started my post off with the word "personally". With that being said, there are some "right" ways to do things.
