They are wonderful pets. Need a big tank (40 gal breeder is the minimum).Use slate tiles not sand. You need uvb the length of the tank and a basking area. Also even though they rarely hide, they need one for each side (hot side and cold side) of the tank. A big but fairly shallow water bowl, a bowl for their salads.
They need more time commitment than any of my other reptiles. But my beardie is also very interactive. They also eat a lot compared to my other reptiles.

Ask specific questions that the basic care sheets conflict or don't cover. Or an experience question. You will get plenty of help when you do that.

Are you serious?? You got your answer with a good link. The problem is people come on here and ask your question once a week so people don't want to type out the same thing they did a week ago. No need for you to be upset or rude.
The link has all the info you need. Beardies are great. Good luck.

Apologies....maybe I should be clearer....I don't keep, and have no experience with, beardies. I did notice however that another person had a similar request and posted a link to it.

I have no issues either typing or engaging in dialogue, however as stated above, when the search function could provide you threads which give all the answers you need then it may be sensible to use that first.......

If that sounded rude I am sorry. People come on here a lot asking people to type out care sheets for them. It gets annoying because maybe instead people could ask for links to good care sheets. I have written care sheets before and I have spent 5+ hours on them.

i was just wanting the basics like temps do i use a uth what about at night do i use a time or thermostat just basic stuff i cant find specifics thats why i asked

Terranaut

All of that is in the link provided above.
I use lights and no uth. On a timer with no heat at night just ambient room temp.
Very easy to care for.

I have heard that 14 hours is better but personally I think that when I do that it stresses them out.

well, my light comes on at about 8 A.M and they go off at about 10 P.M so i guess mine on 14 hrs, off 10 hrs. heats to around 120, or so... I keep mine on potting soil/small amount of sand mix with some branches, a basking spot and some other decor. he eats greens every day, and crickets, or roaches are given every day as well, ( not alot, just about 10 large crickets, or 5 roaches) and the occasional meal worm... mines doing really good, very healthy and sheds great!! but he hates me and i cant touch him... maybe because of my husbandry, but i wasnt really told to change anything :P

hope this helps ya, there alot of great bearded dragon people on here, i know just enought to make mine have a good life, my thing is snakes :)

4x2x2 should work but if you're building it why not make it a little bigger. maybe
6x3x2

When it comes to lizards, I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as too big of an enclosure.

I totally agree. The bigger the better. The smallest is a 40 gallon breeder tank, and remember, one beardie to one tank.

I have my girls lights on for 12 hrs a day.

I don't understand why a 40 breeder is even a option :\ Thil is a 17 inch long dragon, average if not on the small side and her 40 breeder wouldn't allow her to comfortably turn around at 7 months old :\

beardeds4life
07-29-12, 03:41 PM
40 breeders are only 36 inch tank by like 16 people always say a 4x2x2 or a 40 breeder but they are much different in size

Drgnfly2265

Are you sure your not referring to the 40 gallon long and not the 40 gallon breeder? The breeder tanks give a lot of floor space for beardies instead of being tall. My girl in this picture is close to 18" and she has plenty of space to move around.

K well, I just measured my tank, its a Breeder for sure and I feel she deserves not to have her tail bending as she turns around in her tank.

I'm glad to hear that you can give your beardie a bigger tank  I would love to see it. I like seeing different kinds of vivs and getting ideas if I ever decide to build a bigger one! I would be lucky if my girls would use that space, the only time they like to explore is when they are out running around the living room, lol. Other than that they bask under their heat lamp. My girls always bend their tail when they turn even when they are out in the open. Mine don't like to keep it straight, just when they are walking forwards.

Theres a picture in the dragon viv thread, would post but don't want to hijack.

And I wasn't making a shot or anything, I just would rather people think of 4x2x2 as a base instead of a 40 breeder. My girl doesn't always use her whole viv and like your enjoys being outside more but she has days where she enjoys running around in it and that alone makes the space worth it.

My dragon is very small due to parasitic problems when she was younger. I just built her a 4 foot cage but the background is covered in ledges so she has the equivalent of a 6 foot by 2 foot in terms of usable space. I might buy a 36 inch by 18 inch exo terra (same size as a 40 breeder) and cover the background with ledges and stuff and put my small dragon in there and buy another dragon to go in the 4 foot enclosure
