My first ever snake is arriving this coming week... a female norm BP!

I have my setup all ready to go...

Where did you get that hide on the left?

Those analog thermometer/hygrometers are awful for two reasons:
1. they're typically inaccurate. Get a digital one.
2. if they come off, the adhesive could get stuck to your snake's skin.
A temperature gun is also incredibly handy for measuring the temps in any area of the enclosure.

Personally, I would add more substrate. Both of mine like to burrow a little underneath their hides.

I'd cover more of the floor space. Some baby ball pythons can feel intimidated by all the open space and won't thermoregulate by moving to a new hide if they don't feel safe. I'd add more of those fake plants, or more DIY hides.

I don't know how large your ball will be when she arrives, but it's a good idea to have a water dish that is large enough for her to soak in completely. When she arrives, you'll know whether you need a larger water dish.

I bet you're really excited!!!! :D When's the big day?

The hide on the left is just one I made myself...

Yep, got a temp gun. I also have another water dish that is bigger, so can substitute as needed. I have plenty more stuff so I can add to the floor space as suggested.

As far as the analog temp stuff goes... will have to wait until next pay day. They seem to be reasonably accurate at the moment.

Btw, humidity should never be an issue here... I'm by the coast and it's a constant 60-80% humidity year round.

I think this setup might do for the time being, no? I was quite proud of it :)

They can be, but they usually go bad pretty quickly.

Even during the winter? (provided you're in AK like your location says)

Its decent, but make those changes that Alessia suggested and you'll be in great shape.

Even if you're waiting until the next pay day to get a digital hygrometer, I'd take down the analog ones now anyway. They can get stuck to the scales of your snake if she climbs on it and it comes off (which isn't too hard to do). Then you have to deal with removing it off of her scales, which might mean losing scales in the process.

IMO, not worth the risk.

I would get rid of those two analog ther/hydrogmeter too, just cause they can stick to your snake.. and that rheostat is pretty good, but you might have to adjust it periodically here and there.

other than that, add some more stuff to take up floor space and add a little bit more aspen... looking good so far!!

Yeah, we're humid here all the time... 60-80% year round...

I guess I can make those adjustments.

Already added more substrate and put more stuff in the bottom. Extra hide, extra fake plant, stick (sterilised) and a clump of moss.

Will post a new pic here in a bit...

Updated enclosure pic...

As you can see, I've added some stuff and also taken the sticky off the back of the therm/hygro and laid them down.

Is this better?

Looks great Limey!! All that's missing is a snake ;)
Love that you put the toilet paper roll half underneath the substrate.

Thanks for the pointers, Alessia. It may have made the difference between a healthy snake and a visit to the vets... who knows.

There's nothing sticky in there now. So hopefully I'm good to go.

Will try to keep a close eye on her once she's here and I can make adjustments as I go along.
