UTH question

I've bought a zoo med 20 gal UTH pad for my soon-to-arrive ball python.

But I have a sterilite tub as the enclosure and it says not to use the UTH with anything other than glass terrariums.

I'll be using a thermostat and raising the tub bottom off the floor... should it be okay?

I guess I'm concerned that the plastic will melt or something crazy...

As long as you have it on a thermostat it will be fine.

I have done this exact thing: use a thermostat, raise the tub. I have never had any issues. There was a tiny bit of bowing with one tub, but never any melting or warping.

The important thing is: use a thermostat, raise the tub, and keep an eye on things with your temp gun. When/if you notice something off, unplug and discard.

i do same thing as other 2 have mentioned... it iwill be fine on a tub...

i even let one go with NO thermostat to see what it would do to a tub, and it just got really really hot, not melted or anything **NO SNAKE WAS IN TUB****

just use a t-stat and you will be just fine, and lift the tub off the ground... if you can find anything to raise off ground, go to lowes, or ACE hardware and get the things you put on the bottom of chairs, or tables so that you dont scratch wood floors, they work good!

One more question tho: I'll be raising the tub by glueing gatorade bottlecaps on either corner. Will this be enough raise? About a quarter of an inch?

i have that done for my kingsnake tub... even though he doesnt have UTH or heat at all, rooms stays warm enough for him and my corn...
