View Full Version : Hog Island/Dwarf Boa Owners-Enclosure Question!
Hello you HIB owners, I am in the process of getting a Hog Island or Cay Caulker boa and wanted to get some input from people who have experience with these two localities. I have a wooden 38x24x20 vivarium that I plan on using for either of these boa's and just wanted to get some input on if that will be sufficient for life. Planning on getting a male so they will hopefully stay around 5-6 feet. I am also planning on putting in a ledge to add to the overall floor space of the cage.
I have heard 1 sq foot of floor space per foot of snake, not sure if I am thinking of that correctly or not.
I will be getting the snake from Rio Bravo so I am not worried about getting a crossed Hog that may get 7 feet, but on the off chance that I do get a biggie, I am not worried about upgrading to a larger enclosure:)
Thanks for any input folks, it is appreciated!

Welcome :)... Personally I'd say 3ft long is too short... My CA dwarf pastel is only about 4.5ft and he looks abit cramped in a 4ftx 20x24.

I agree with Snakey-Jay that 3 feet is not big enough for an adult HIB. 4'X2'x2' would be better. Since HIBs like a bit more humidity, I'm not sure a wooden vivarium is your best option. Also, if you're getting a baby snake a large enclosure might stress it out, so you have to think about that as well. Hope that helps.

What they said. I am planning on ordering the Animal Plastics T10 enclosure for my Hog Island within the next few months, and believe it should be just about perfect. It measures 48" x 24" x 15", and should hold humidity very well, in addition to being plenty spacious. Good luck!

Thanks guys, I think I will end up getting a 4x2 at some point in the near future. I have my heart set on a Hog or Cay Caulker so gotta do what ya gotta do!
Do you think a dwarf would be alright in the 3x2x2 for a year or so, or do they mature to full size a bit quicker?
Thanks for the help.
