Hi, I'm interested in breeding crested geckos, but I'm not quite sure of how to go about it yet. I've got a male crested that's about 23 weeks old, when will he be "mature" enough to breed? Also, what are the requirements for nesting? (ie: substrate, temp) Would I be able to put 2 females in his cage? (If so how big should the cage be?) How many eggs are there per clutch/how long is the gestation period?
Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance :)
PS I'm new you people rock!
ESPECIALLY THAT KATEV17!!! LOL

Hi there, I'm pretty new to ssnakess.com too and I am also interested in breeding crested geckos (AND I only have a male, but he's about 7 months now). I can't answer all your questions because I'm asking the same ones sometimes, but I can answer a few.
I know that a female is able to breed usually around 9 months (not sure about the male though, sorry - maybe he's around 8-9mths?) but it's best to hold off until she's a little older (approx 1 year) for her sake. Yes you can keep more than one female with one male, up to a group of 1.4 is safe. For a group of 1.2, a 20-25 gallon tank should be sufficient, but make sure there's enough air flow in the area. As far as the nestbox is concerned, you just need one for the female(s) to lay their eggs, but you should take them out of the terranium to incubate and hatch them, otherwise crickets may eat the eggs or the parent cresteds will probably eat the hatchlings.
Now, I don't want to go taking other people's ideas so I'm going to refer you to this website which should help you out and be more specific. Hope some of this helps!

lol yah! Crestie buddies :D
I'll keep you posted I 'spose...I'm looking up various costs of various bredding stuff at the moment....seeing if it might be a worthy investment...I'm off to university in a year and a half though....soo...I'm trying to work that out. Maybe if I rented an apt instead of dorms....:D we'll see!

Same for me, I'm going to university this next fall, but I'm staying at home for the first year or two, and even after then I'd probably get an appartment as well if I move away too because I wouldn't be able to give them up that easily!

Well, Heather when you go away you can just give them all to me! :D:D:D I think that sounds like a MUCH better plan! Hmm... I wonder how chameleons and geckos get along... ? (lol Just kidding :p)

HaHa It looks like Ill be fending off Kate with a pointy stick...:P
I can't really stay home during University....I do suppose I could get an apt or house or whatever with roomates/housemates :P
Because I hear pets are a no-no in the dorms.....
Oh well! We shall see...I'm still looking at the costs for this.

haha, mine's a crested gecko but... just a little blurry. I haven't quite perfected my photography skills yet. I take pics with the digicam w. flash -- everything ends up white. I take pics without the flash -- ends up blurry. I take a pic with the good ol' disposable camera, and everything ends up VERY blurry and sometimes white. There's no winning with my photo skills.

Oh dear... :( lol oh well I'm sure you'll perfect it in time! Maybe you can ask for help on the Photography discussion board? I'm sure people would be glad to help... As for me, I get my dad to take all the pictures, cuz he got a digicam that's the size of my thumb!
