I was able to see in person today the dwarf retic I posted about a few days ago. Holy smokes....she was amazing. Very light, lots of yellow, brilliant orange eyes and puppy dog tame. So.....I got her:)
I'm posting up some iPhone pics. Once she's settled in her enclosure, I'll post more. This is my first retic!

I'm not so sure that's a dwarf... not saying it isn't, but that color is evocative of most normal mainlands I've seen. It could be a Selayer, but I'm not seeing Jampea.

I guess time will tell.

The breeder indicated that she is 3 yrs old, and now approx 6 ft. Feeds large rat 1x week. I hope she's a dwarf, but regardless, I think I just caught the retic bug. :)

its dangerous that bug, looks like he should be on xl rats once a week. But if he's 3 years old there's a solid chance he is a dwarf.

Kyle...dangerous no doubt....I've had snakes my whole life and I've never really given retics much more than a passing thought...until I saw this one that is. I am just blown away at the patterns these things have and the variability......

I'm in trouble :)

Yeah, wait until you go to a breeder's place and see the mind blowing stuff that they're working on. I got to see some of the things Travis Kubes and Ben Renick have in person and my mind = blown. Ghosts, platinum super suns, anery platinum tigers, anthrax, ultra ivory, snow, you're in OK, you should look up Bob Clark and Will Watts (Will's partner, Stephan, is on here, he's moving to OKC in less than a month) and see if you can swing by and check their stuff out. Bob had one of the first pied retics and I got to see 2 babies in person last weekend, while I don't like them much now, I can't wait to see what they look like with platinum or anery or another gene plugged in.

That's one beautiful retic. love the yellows and the long narrow head lol.

Miller's right it doesn't look like any dwarf locales. i doubt it's a selayer he looks alot like a mainland(sumatran, java, ....), but the chance of a pure bred dwarf is slim. almost all have mainland genes. which is cool because they get alot of their awesome colours.

The pedigree is apparently a Bob Clark import. The owner obtained it then as a juvi and has had it ever since. Yeah, it may not be dwarf. The age and size make me hopeful.
Anyway, dwarf or not, I'm in love. I'm asking myself why I never had a retic before now?!?!?

Just because its from Bob doesn't mean anything. My opinions aside retic localities are screwed up unintentionally(and sometimes intentionally...) with regrettable frequency.

As far as why? There's numerous reasons, the size, the cost (both initial and eventual in cost and housing), legality, attitude stigma, the list goes on. If it was none of those then perhaps you just weren't aware of how awesome the species is!

I love mine, my female is a pain sometimes but my male is a riot, for a 100% SD he's not flighty, not bitey, he's active, curious, calm, just all around pretty awesome. My female is the same once she's out, he's not even cage-defensive, but she is. I love coming into my room and seeing him come to the front to watch me with those stunning orange eyes.
