View Full Version : Spider Wobble??

So as most of you know, I got a 2011 female Spider het ghost. I brought her home and so far have either not seen a wobble, or if I have it is so very slight that I'm not sure it's there (almost like a little "shiver")
I have fed her once, of which she showed NO interest in until I left the room, so I have no idea if the wobble is present at feeding time.
So my question is, does this "wobble" get worse as they get older, or is she just going to have a very slight, almost non-existant wobble for the rest of her life???
On another note, I rescued a Normal ball python who did have what I would consider a wobble when I fed her, she missed on her first strike, then had this: well, wobble!! while she was taking it down, then went back to acting totally normal once they prey was all the way down, so what's up with that???
You'll either notice the wobble right out of the egg, or it might take 6 months to a year to manifest itself.
Keep in mind, the wobble could be so bad that it literally does loop de loops all the time, or so minor that all you see is a slight head shiver at feeding time.

My spider was 8 months when I got him and barely showed signs of a wobble, also struck and hit dead on, and never shivered or "shook". He just turned two, he went through an upside down phase and now he shakes almost constantly unless he is out with me or pearl, if I put him down he starts shaking and hits himself off things. Feeding has become a nightmare he pretty much vibrates its so bad, he misses 95% of the time unless he gets it stomach, if he misses he won't eat again and just hides. I love him to death and it kills me to see how bad it has gotten, to be completely honest I hate when people say it doesn't affect the quality of life cause when I look at him I can't help but think what's going on in his head, eating scares him, being out just on his own freaks him out, I can't just take him out and let him go like the others cause he either hides or tries so adventure and gets hurt.
All I can say is be prepared.

Mykee, my gal is coming up on a year old later this summer, like I said the wobble is so slight I would call it more a shiver or tremble, so I am hoping you're right and that will be all she shows.
Valvaren, that is horrible, that would break my heart to see too. Sorry to hear your guy has it so bad, and I really hope that Neytiri does not get that bad, ever.
Like I said, she won't eat in front of me, so I have no clue about whether it gets worse when she feeds. I put the rat in there and walk away, when I come back, it's gone.

my spider is nearly a year now too and shows no sign of a "wobble" strikes with perfect accuracy BUT put him on his back it takes him a bit to right himself.
doesnt affect him in the slightest.
i have other "normal" snakes that have shown a slight tremble at feeding but i just put that down to excitement of the feed, this includes royals and boas. you can almost see them drooling.

As I said brood himself was also close to a year old and as stated was showing very little to no signs and now at 2 years he is a completely different snake, I find it hard to say there is a certain time frame for it to worsen and that like anything it depends on the snake.
Fill me in, please.
Do all Spider Morphs posses the wobble, or is it just a percentage?

Mykee says they all do to an extent, just depends from snake to snake how bad it is
So as a pet whats the point of owning one?
Pinstripes are similar.

I wouldn't be able to answer your question, that would be for someone else with a pet spider to do. I fully intend to breed her when she is older as I want to create many different bee morphs and other morphs that use the spider gene to create.

That makes sense to me.

Brood was my first snake, I had wanted a spider before I knew about the 'wobble'. A person near me had a few snakes and invited my fiancee and I over to see his collection, when we got there he showed us Brood, at this point I wasn't into getting a spider anymore due to the wobble but this person told us he was trying to get rid of this spider cause he had no need for him, he was in an unclean tub with sheds and poop everywhere. There are so many people in our area that own reptiles and snakes in particular without knowing what they are doing, this wasn't a pet store and I knew this little guy risked being homed somewhere with someone who wouldn't take care of him or understand his condition. I do not plan to breed him and though he breaks my heart sometimes I wouldn't trade him for the world. I realize people believe that this condition is something that doesn't hurt them or affect them and shouldn't be worried about when breeding but honestly I don't understand how people can look at these animals and play the game of chance to create these animals when you have the possibly of condemning an animal to the possibility of what Brood goes through, primitive brain or not its not fair.

I was wondering the same thing actually. Also why perpetuate this affliction by using these particular snakes in future breeding projects?

I'm no expert but The spider gene is used to create bumble bees.

Spiders contribute thier genes to alot of beautiful morphs, bumblebess, killer bees, Albino bees, and many many more. Heck, Mykee just came out this year with a 5 gene animal that has the spider gene in it and it was superbly gorgeous!!

People just love spider morphs Jay!
I posted on kijiji last year some bumblebee males I had and every week for 3 months I had at least one new person interested. We're talking in the GTA listing too so it was off the first 10 pages within a week!
Snakefood, don't worry about yours. I don't see it getting worse. I have a bee here who's almost 4 years who I got from Mykee and she has the slightest wobble from time to time. It's never changed.

I hope you're right Aaron, I would like for mine not to get any worse, and it is sooooooo slight as to be almost non-existant now. All I can do is wait and see.
She is beautiful, and she's het ghost and PH lavendar, so I have quite a few projects planned for her once she's of age (so to speak!!), but the first one is Bees, I love the Bees and will be keeping one out of her first clutch!!
This conversation is so...2001.
The spider has a neuro issue. It does not affect there lives: they eat well, they poop fine, they breed well, they do everything normal except they have a slight tick.
Nothing left to say.
As of right now, my super pastel spider lesser het hypo male shows zero signs of the neuro issue associated with spiders. It will likely come in time. His mother vibrates during feeding. That's it.

ya I just wanted to know if it would get worse or stay the same, and of course was wondering why the normal has a wobble as I have never heard of that!!
