Try different kinds of food. besides fish, try mudskippers, eels, catfish and mullet. They may also eat crabs

Don't leave food in the tank for a week. It will get smelly and rancid

If he is loosing weight it might be time to force feed the snake. You can also try cutting small strips of store bought fish.

Store bought fish have added salts and preservatives. At most of the chain pet stores they sell frozen fish that are pretty large.

You can get it in the fresh fish section, at least at the stores around me. They are cut and wrapped as you order them.

Yes but I heard on a thread a while back that some of Wayne's garters got poisoned from store bought fish

I did not read that one. I do know a guy that raises garters and breeds them and only feeds store bought fresh fish. I guess it might have to do with the quality of the fish you purchase. I personally use a home made mixture of turkey, eggs, vit. and water that I use to tube feed any of my problem eater, until they eat on their own. It works great on water snakes. Have used this mixture for over 30 years and have great success with it. I had gotten the idea from the Cleveland Zoo reptile dept. when I was having some trouble with a few of my snakes eating.

Hows the habitat set up? Temps? Substrate? etc...

Granted, I know little about this species, much less caring for it in captivity, but a lot of times, snakes will refuse food if something is not right in their habitat: i.e. temperatures are too high or too low, not enough hiding shelters, etc....maybe do some more research and make sure this snake is set-up properly before trying to feed.

is this a wild caught snake or where did it come from?

I agree with Studentoreptile. And you have to give a new snake time to settle into its habitat and not feel as threatened by it.

Force feeding would be a last resort if she starts to loose weight.
