Thinking of the future

Hey guy's, me and the g/f are just wondering for the future about owning one of these beauties!

Whats the best advice inc, type of croc, needs, enclosure size etc needed for doing this in the uk?

Any advice and tips would be much grateful

Caiman stay pretty small about 7 or 8 feet long. They probably need a large room for themselves. They are going to cost a fortune to feed and house properly.

If you are serious about owning one I would find someone that is near you that has one or several and work with them for a few months. Almost like you would if you wanted to own hots, Find a mentor.

They need more than a large room. From what I understand, the length and width of the enclosure should be four times the length of the animal, at minimum. So for an eight foot caiman, you're talking a 32'x32' enclosure..

Definitely not an animal to get on an impulse. Do all the planning beforehand, research research research, and think very carefully about whether you really want and can care for an animal capable of killing or seriously injuring you.

As far as I am aware you will need to get your DWA licence to own a croc of any type.

Idk what your level of experience with crocs or even what the legal issues are with owning a croc there and if you are able to pull it off, more power to you. Judging from the replies Im reading on this thread, keeping and taking care of one is a huge undertaking and not something to be done lightly. My hope is that if youre able to get one, license and all, and are able to care for it that doing so proves to be a rewarding experience.

look into dwarf caimans, not a bad option, there's loads of info about them out there. I got to check one out in person last weekend. Top out around 5 foot for males and 4 for females, but they can be bitey (as my finger found out...)

Worry about the dwa licence and how your going to house it properly.. Those are your biggest hurdles.... Oh and cash... Youll need A lot of it :D
