Hey guys so my male retic is just hitting 3 foot. He had his first shed with me about a week ago and he looked beautiful. a couple days ago though i noticed that his head scales started to look different. they looked almost "dry" and dark. Before his head would have that same irridescent shine the rest of his body has but now it looks a little more "matte" or rough. At first i thought it was humidity but his is fine. is this really a problem? anybody else experience this with their snakes? Also after feeding he always rubs his mouth agains his branch/perch for a little bit. is this normal?

Starting to go into shed. I bump the humidity up a bit. I bet anything it will shed in a couple weeks. But just to be safe lets see some before pics and some of it head now.

Was it a complete shed? If he shed last week it could be some retain shed. My female Blood did that to me last month. She shed and poop in it so i just threw it away and did noticed that she still had shed on her head. A week or so goes by and i noticed the dry and darker scales on her head. So i gave her a soak then try to peal it off. I couldn't get all of it off but two day later she had got the rest off.

you were right. i went out and came home and you could see a bit of shed skin hanging off his neck. just the tiniest bit i was lucky enough to see it. so i took him out soked him and it came off within the hour. looking flawless again. thats so much! i heard retics had bad shed my humidity is around 60-70 usually, and i bump it a little bit during shedding, so i don't know why that happened . just glad she's looking back to her old self again!

Try keeping that humidity up to about 80% and shouldnt be any issues with shedding in the future :)

okay lankyrob, will do. i thought it might be too much to always keep it at 80%.
and also how do you guys keep your humidity up? i spray the tank but it doesnt work the best and it also makes the paper i use for substrate pretty wet lol. not a big deal but i'm sure there's other ways?

I have a melamine enclosure (well sealed) and use reptibark for substrate. One spray each day keeps the humidity upto 90% and it drops over 24hours down to about 75%.
