Hey guys! I recently bought a corn snake but i'm not sure what kind it is, this is my very first pet snake. Iv'e been told it was a hypo or a Carolina Classic. Also i have two more question to ask. I want it to get big really fast but not fat and still be healthy, how often should i feed it? Also does it look like it's be ready for fuzzies?

There is no reason rush his growth. Feed him once a week, and te right size of mice, and he will grow healthy. For his size it looks like he might still need to be on pinkies.

Danny, you don't want it to get big really fast, you want it to grow normally and healthy.
if you can get a weight in grams (digital scale) we can give you the munson plan on when it switches from eating pinkies every 5 days to every 7 days and then when it is to switch to fuzzies.
or you go by the width at the largest part of the body, prey should be 1.5 times larger than the widest part of his body.
"power feeding" is practised by people who want thier snakes to grow fast, but it is not healthy for the snake to do so.
Don't be in a hurry, as healthy snakes make healthy babies. Let it grow up at a normal rate.

Getting it "big fast" will just overstress its organs and reduce its life, feed one prey item a week, upto twice its girth and it will grow healthily :)

Ok thanks guys i had no idea it could be so harmful. I think im going to feed it every 5 days for a while then 7. I am also going to weigh him and i'll post his weight in a bit, that munson plan sounds good Darcie!

I use the munson plan as a guideline for mine, and they are all healthy and happy and growing nicely.
it's hard to tell in the pics, but is there any black outline on his saddles?? (the spots on his back)
If there is no black, he could be an odd colored Amel.
It is hard to tell but he could be a hypo. There does not appear to be a lot of black on him ( hypomelanistics have a greatly reduced melanin black pigment)

Yes, but he doesn't look like my baby Amels, mine are far brighter than that.
But you're right, I did say Possible Hypo in a PM to Danny, but I've never seen a hatchling Hypo in person, so it was hard for me to say.
It doesn't look a bit like my Hypo-Amel yearling either???
My guess is really low black normal, Hypo, or strange colored Amel!!
Hey Danny, give us a picture of the belly too, that could help us decide!!

Yeah sure i'll take more pictures tomorrow. You can kinda see i just fed him/her in the second picture right before i took these, i don't want to handle him just yet. Also i have never really noticed any black around the spots but i'll check tomorrow!

Judging from these pics I would say you have a hypo.

Yea i think so too because my snake's spots don't have black outlines. So I guess it's a hypo amel?

no. Just a hypo. This is my amel.

his patterning is different, but this would be the coloring of a hypo amel

yup, alot of times the belly pattern (or lack thereof) tells the tale of what you have

I agree with the hypo conclusion. It's a pretty snake, for sure.

no. Just a hypo. This is my amel.
Oh ok. Sorry that I don't know this, but what is the difference between a hypo and an amel?

Amel means Amelanistic hypo means hypo melanistic

I know but like in appearance what's the difference they look the same to me.

Oh ok. Sorry that I don't know this, but what is the difference between a hypo and an amel?lets put the pics next to each other and see.
A Hypo has reduced black coloring. An Amel has none at all.
A Hypo more closely resembles a Normal. An Amel more closely resembles an Albino, just more red and orange.

They change color with each shed until they are adults. For Example:
Hypo-Amel Hatchling

Hypo-Amel Yearling
19536
Hypo-Amel Adult

So even though yours doesn't look like a hypo hatchling, or a hypo adult. It does look somewhere in between.
Hatchling
19538
Adult
19539
A hypo will have belly checkering, a hypo amel will not

Ok well hopefully I can tell what it is for sure soon, especially by the time it turns to adult.
Congrats on your new addition! I'm pretty sure it's a hypo as well.

Normals can vary a lot so I would not be so quick to call your snake a hypo. If his belly checks are black he is a normal and if they are brownish he is most likely an amel. The only way to prove it would be to breed it to a hypo or a snake that is hypo with something else, eg a ghost which is a hypo anery.
Amelanistics lack back. They do have belly checkers, they can just be very light. Amelanistics have red pupils. Motleys and diffuseds (bloodreds) have no belly checks.
You could be right, but it has so little black, I think it's a hypo.
