Oh my gosh, the Hamburg reptile expo today was really great. I had known I was due to pick up a pair of juvenile Southern copperheads that a friend of mine was bringing for me, but I also found two amazing eyelash vipers. My fiance is a sucker for them, and we both really were fascinated with a 2-year-old bright yellow and faintly orange banded female, and then I saw him- a dark maroon and bronze male with BRONZE EYES!! I've never seen an eyelash viper colored like this fellow...he was so sinister-looking, and a proven breeder too. So we picked them both up. I'm so excited; I can't believe the beauty!!!

The copperheads are named Penny and Rusty, the little yellow girl is my fiance's to name, and I'm debating between Abyss or Morpheus for the bronze/red male.

Here are some pictures- enjoy!

Awesome! You can never have too many schlegies. The dark green one looks very familiar, I believe I have one of his sibs.

Thanks guys!! Yeah, I couldn't pass up that big copper eyelash...just too unique. And everyone loves a nice yellow! So John is happy too- he's got more eyelashes to ogle, and so do I!

Botis, they're both from Frank Castro. The red/bronze/not-sure-what-color-to-call-him male is 7-years old and the yellow female is 2.

Fantastic. Love the yellow one of course  You should put some reference items in the next pics you take, to show how small they are!

These two are actually decent size. The reddish male is about 1.5 feet long (he's a full-grown adult) and the yellow female is about 10 inches- the same size as Goblin. I'll be feeding them today, so the food items in their mouths should provide some reference.

The new guys all ate today, which is a great sign. The baby copperheads were hilarious- they drummed their little tails like they thought they were rattlers while they ate their pinkys, lol!!

Nope, I was mistaken. Same source, but mine is a couple years younger. Frank produces some killer sclegs, including most of mine. I know they'll do fantastic for you. Congrats on some nice new pick ups.

Thanks so much guys. I am soo overjoyed with them - I can't wait to start breeding the schlegs. :)

Oh, and in a week I will have another one of my dream snakes...a yearling male Cryptelytrops insularis from Al Coritz. This has been the best snake weekend ever!!

I think we've decided on names. I have a Marvel characters theme going on with the eyelash vipers...our first one we named Green Goblin, and the second one is Misty (short for Mystique). So I continued the trend, with Loki for the reddish male, and Pyro for the yellow female. WHat do you guys think?

Oh my god! Wish I had the guts to keep venemous snakes. That is one of the type of snakes that even if my parents let me get them I wouldn't because I would be to scared. I'll just stick to looking at yours!

They're definitely amazing animals, but not for everyone. I had a very frightening reminder yesterday of why one can't fall into the comfort of a routine. I went to feed Shelby, and he bolted right over the food and plopped onto the floor. I had to grab his tail, swing him around and hook him back into his cage. It was terrifying, and a good solid lesson on NOT letting a cobra figure out your pattern!
