I plan on building some cages for some of my red tailed green rats when they get bigger. My question is, does anybody have any experience with coco fiber liner? Its the stuff you see in hanging plants sometimes. I found that you can buy the stuff in a roll and thought it would be good for the sides and back of the inside of the cage.
I've seen some pics of cages on line with the coco fiber in them. I have no idea how well it would hold up to humidity and stuff though. Would it just be a place for bacteria and mold to grow? I really like the idea of it, I would assume that with proper ventilation and no stagnant conditions it would be fine. Does anyone have any hands on experience with the stuff?

Well for plants it holds NO moisture so I don't see it holding humidity in an enclosure. It is typically kind of expensive ( around me ) and breaks up easily. This I know from using it for plants. Never used it in a reptile enclosure but I don't think I would.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I wasn't sure about it so hearing someone else's experience with it helps. Thanks Coffee.

it works great for my ball python he can digest it and it holds mostier okay but put a little soil under it
I use it in all my tanks...I put news print under it...but I use tubs. The ventalation majes a huge difference. My male bp likes to spill a bit of his water when he is in shead and it keeps the tubs perfect.

Are you talking about the cage liner stuff, or the actual coconut coir fiber bedding/substrate?

I mean the coco fiber liner rolls. I was thinking about putting it on the walls of the enclosure. I wasn't talking about bedding. Its the stuff you see in those hanging plant baskets.

Gotcha. I don't have any experience with the stuff, but I don't think it would hold humidity well either.

Yea, the more I look into it, the more I see that too.
