I was wondering if we'll ever see the Rough Scaled Python, the Hypo Bredli, or even the Boelens Python available in here at any point in the next few years. I know some Boelens float around, but I'd like to see these snakes established.

It is my understanding that the main issue of getting Boelens established is breeding. They come from very high altitudes, and their breeding season seems to be triggered by rapid fluctuations in humidity/barometric pressure. From what I've heard, several keepers who have attempted to breed them have witnessed success only right after or during a drop in barometric pressure and/or a rainstorm...or something like that. Basically, something that is not easily replicated in captivity. Its not a huge problem getting them imported into the country. Its not a huge problem incubating the eggs or rearing the hatchlings. Its getting the darn things stimulated to reproduce!

I believe its simply a legal issue with rough-scales, with them being an Australian species. Very few people have the require permits to own them, and even if they could reproduce them, they have very limited outlets to distributing the offspring (i.e. they cannot sell them commercially).

Don't know much about the Bredii.

Rough Scaled pythons will be a while, but they will be commercially available in the US soon enough. Paul Harris imported a group from Bushmaster into europe last year. The Hypo Bredli is also in the US owned by none other then Nick Mutton. As for the boelens, well there has never really been a problem acquiring one them in the US in the recent years to be honest... They have been successfully hybridized into carpet pythons now as well, so the key's behind captive breeding are being worked out rather quickly now.

re boelens
as far as i know,no one outside Indonesia has successfully bred boelens,i think some have dropped a clutch in captivity (in the usa),that they were already carrying, since being wild caught.....

as the species lives at high altitude, this is thought to be reason,it is difficult to breed them successfully in captivity " outside Indonesia "

MALE boelens were successfully bred to female carpet pythons, sorry i cannot remember what they named them ?

re rough scaled
Terry Philp of The Reptile Gardens,in the usa, produced a clutch last year, when i e mailed him,he was waiting to hear back from the Australian Government,as to what he was ALLOWED to do with the hatchlings.....

would he be allowed to,sell them, keep them,or be told to euthanize them

Nick Mutton, would be a good guy to ask, regards availability in Europe.....

he does imports and exports with Paul Harris,of UK Pythons

a couple of pairs of LEGAL roughies, were allowed to be exported to Europe,by the Australian Government

i think a pair went to Germany, and a pair to Norway

re hypo bredl
i know of no hypo lines outside Australia

there are striped bredl bloodlines, but as far as i know, theres no hypo's (i would love 2.3 hypo bredl mate)

i hope you track down all your looking for mate (remember to post pic's if you do :)
