She double clutched on me!!!!

My female Snow (Yuki-Onna) laid 17 eggs at the beggining of April, they started to hatch on May 28, and I am still waiting for the last 2 to come out of thier eggs.

I took all the babies who are out of egg to a local breeder friend of mine to help me sex them and she started spouting about some females double clutching and did mine do that. I said "god, I hope not, she's thin enough as it is after laying the first 17, and I am trying desperately to fatten her up so I don't see her spine anymore" My breeder friend said, "well if she does double clutch, she'll do it soon"

I came home and could smell someone in the rack had pooped, so I started checking tubs and to my dismay Yuki was sitting there with 14 more eggs!! I haven't candled yet, but it looks like only 5-7 are viable, but I will candle in the next day or two to check it out.

Please tell me they don't triple clutch, I seriously want to feed her up so she doesn't look so darned thin anymore!!:sad:

I'll feed her a nice fat mousie tomorrow and then another every 5 days till she looks good again. I called my breeder friend and she said they don't triple clutch, so she's done for the year and should fatten up nicely being fed every 5 days.

Yuki also loves rat fuzzy's and sm hoppers, so once I have some of those, I'll offer them up for a higher fat content.

If you feed her appropriately sized rats instead of mice, she'll gain weight back quicker.

yup, rats it is. I checked my freezer and had a couple left, so she ate a hopper rat this afternoon, and we'll keep giving her those every 5 days.

Sounds good, keep that up and she'll be back to her ideal weight in a month or 2.

I hope so, it kills me to see her this thin. here I thought she was done at the first clutch of 17 and she was thin after that, but then another 14 and she looks positively anorexic!!

But now that I know she's all out of eggs, I'll plump her up in no time!!

I understand your concern about her weight. Its still hard for me to believe little Schatzi pumped out all those eggs she did that were twice her current girth. I had Hellboy in and out all the way until the day she laid those eggs too so a double clutch is also a possibility for me as well. Anyway, congratulations on all those eggs and may they all be good and healthy and hatch into 31 beautiful snakes.

thx, EX!! Yes, put Schatzi's lay box back in when the first clutch starts pippin, just in case. I didn't and will probably lose many because she layed the second clutch on dry aspen!! Just some friendly advice!!
