Hey all.

Well, Static is doing very well.

He hasn't tagged me in probably 6 months now, very curious and calm when I take him out ;)

He is currently 5'2 @ 2.5lbs. (he's a year and 4 months old now)

I feed him a med rat (125grams) every 7 days, and he has always eaten every 7 days.

My question, is that to frequent? I know for his size he could probably eat a lot larger meal, but I had figured his frequency might offset that?

He sheds regularly every 5-6 weeks and grows about 4 inches with each shed.

Thanks!

I havent kept snakes long enough to have tried both ways to know which is better but i figure in nature they arent fed on a regular basis and will eat whatever they find rather than pick sizes :)

My carpet gets a rat about 3-4times his girth on a 14 then 21 day schedule and seems to be doing ok :)

He looking good and health. He at a nice size i say just keep up with what your doing. My male Jag is about the same size and age and he will take a large every two weeks. When i can get larges he get 2 mediums.

Tim, I prefer a less frequent feeding schedule for my adult pythons. As they get mature, their metabolisms slow down a bit, so feeding every 7 days might not leave enough time for the food to be fully digested between meals. Carpet pythons can take surprisingly big meals for their slender build. For example, my jungles and jag sib are about 4-4.5 feet long and are eating a large rat every 2-2.5 weeks.

You want a defecation, or at least urate deposit, almost every meal. If you are going 3-4 meals between defecations, then the prey is too small and the feeding is too frequent. Just my. $0.02

I guess i'm the odd man out....i think that snake looks kinda "thick" LOL
But, my girl is smaller, since she refused rats for a while, and only wanted mice. I only just got her back onto rats. Last i checked she was just over 3 feet, and may be close to two years old.
I can see space between those scales though, and that makes me think he's a pretty good sized snake!

I also feed mine big prey less often. My female gets a jumbo rat or small bunny every 2-3 weeks and my male a large rat every 2. My female is a bit thick as well but she holds her poop for months then has a huge dump an thins out considerably.
Your looks great imho.
