This is probably the closest view of a tick you will ever see. I took these with a Canon MP-E 65mm 1x-5x lens. With this lens you can see the details on a grain of rice.

Oh dear Jesus, why did I click the link? I'm deathly afraid of ticks...if I have a phobia it's got to be them. I looked at the pictures out of curiosity and now I feel like I have bugs crawling on me....gah!

I used to do a lot of hiking pre accident and regularly ended up with ticks on me, the big advantage of smoking cigars is being able to burn them off straight away :)

Ew cigars rob!! blah!
And that is one nasty, engorged, horrible tick *lol*
I have seen ticks, and the most horrible time was when one crawled out of my dog's bed...while laying eggs...and being THAT big and engorged. I still want to throw up when i think of it! BLAH! I actually couldn't figure out what it was at first. We thought it was some huge beetle or something *lol*
Nice camera.

The vile beast is probably full of blood in the pictures....*shudder*
I went hiking in MD with my fiance last summer and when we came out of the woods there were ticks all over my pants and shirt. Before I knew what I was doing, I was sobbing and stripping off my clothes. Luckily I had a bathing suit on underneath, but I think I cried the entire car ride home. I was still finding the rotten creatures in my car a week later.
Really, what purpose do they serve??? I mean, ticks don't pollinate anything like bees do, they don't eat other pests, they don't help plants....all they do is suck blood and spread horrendous diseases like Lyme around. I think they are seriously evil.

Same with mosquitos...no purpose in the world other than bothering animals and spreading diseases!

Mosquitos and ticks are soooo gross and annoying! Agreed! I will never forget the gore of finding that one engorged one. We didn't know what to do to kill it either...we did NOT want to squish it *BLAH* lol
