Wow, nice pics. Linds, what setting are you using on your A40 to get these pics? I have been trying to take macro shots with my S40, and they look really fuzzy and blurry.

edwin of coarse make sure your macro button is pushed, make sure you rest your arms on somethng or get a mini tripod so there is no camra shake. !!!Important!! if it doesnt look clear in the veiw finder the pic wont be ether! move back a bit till the pic clears ushally about 6 inch is good if your not using optical zoom and one foot away if you are using it. take your pic on highest quality then send it to your photo editor to crop and resize for the closeness you want. I use a s30 and it is amazing on high quality how much you can magnify before the untrained eye starts to see a diminish in quality. Here is an example the picture of my leo was taken of its full body and just croped to the head http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/3036/676yellow_leo_face-med.jpg

Thanks for the kind words everyone! :D Pics of the full animals can be viewed in my *always changing* gallery :)

Edwin,
I just set it to Macro and snap a pic. Not sure with the S40, but with my A40 you have to make sure lighting is optimal and you are no closer than 14" or so to the item being photographed when shooting in macro mode. If it only beeps once and the light is orange that means it isn't optimal and may not turn out to be very clear at all, it has to beep twice and the light needs to be green. Hope this helped a little :)

Linds, Dave,

It works. I checked my camera settings, and digital zoom was turned off.
