View Full Version : thermostat probe placement
I am currently setting up a viv for my JCP and have got a ceramic heater with a guard put up in there and what I am not sure is how close to the guard I am supposed to put my thermostat probe? Any help will be appreciated

I put all my probes directly under the heater on the floor of the viv on top of the substrate. Then just adjust the thermostat to get the temps you need :)
How hot does the guard get when doing it like this? If I will be getting 30-31 deg on the substrate then the temp on the guard must be higher but is it by a lot? Just concerned that she will climb around the guard and I want to make sure that she does not get burned, which I am probably being over worried about but I have only used heat mats before and my stat probe is always directly on the mat which is always the hottest it can be.

I can touch the guards with bare hands with no burns, not sure if it something with the thermodynamics of a grid set up but the heat seems to dissipate really easily :)
Thanks for your help guys
I was worried about the guard getting hot too with my first ceramic heater but the heat seems to pass through it. I have my probe inside the hot hide so I know that the snake will only get as warm as it needs in that hide.
