This is an actual update of an earlier thread to keep everyone up to date with what all has happened since then

It has been almost a year since Carl passed away but recent events compel me to write it all down.

A little history...

February 14, 2011, about the same time I bought the 4 shelf 37 qt AP rack, I also bought Carl. He was a deep, bright Bloodred Stripe Corn and I only paid $25 for him. I didnt even know what I had or how rare he was until after I got him. Another Corn breeder after seeing the attached pic, he was like "A Bloodred Stripe?!?!?! Where did you get that beast?!" In that conversation, he convinced me to breed him. Thats why I bought Schatzi. The idea was to produce triple het normals. Then after a few years breed 2 of the offspring together to a produce in one clutch a Christmas assortment of morphs to ultimately end up with a Fire Stripe which is triple homozygous for Amelanistic, Bloodred and Stripe. After a few months we noticed him losing weight so shortly after originally acquiring Schatzi I took him to the vet who told me to increase his feeding to every week instead of every other week. I did exactly that but it did no good. He did not make it and on June 27, he passed away. On another forum, the same day, I posted an obit type of thread and this is what I said there...

"Carl my bloodred stripe corn passed away today suddenly and for unknown reasons. He had been underweight so I took him to the vet for a checkup to see what I would need to do to get his weight up in time for breeding season next year. The vet said his feeding needed to be every week instead of every other week and that is what I did since. Last week he did not eat so we waited until this week in which I gave him a pinky. Today the pinky was still in there but Carl had already died. Im still stunned by it all but I thought Id post this and say Im sorry Tony. Not sure what happened but I will make good on my breeding promise to you somehow."

I sold Schatzi a few months after that to pay for the pair of IJs I now have but when I got her back, I was thrilled. Somehow, some way, sometime, I will follow through with these breeding plans, just with another male but it must be with a male thats at least on par with Carl... (pic #1)

This has since occured when Shmoges offered to loan me his bloodred motley. We exchanged phone numbers and proceeded with the details of this transaction. Under the terms, I was to pay for shipping and he would send him to me. I would pair them up after his quarantine and when I was sure they took, I would ship him back. Time went on and before long his quarantine was up and I paired them. A few weeks later, Shmoges offered to sell him (Hellboy is his name) to me. This allowed me to keep him and I was very excited. Hellboy is the prettiest Corn I have ever seen. (pic #2).

Getting back to the initial pairing, it only took 20 minutes and they were only together like that a couple of minutes so I wasnt sure they locked at all. Subsequently, I separated then paired together, then separated again, back and forth like this for weeks until giving up for the season because at this time Hellboy had not eaten anything since I got him. Then last week I looked in Schatzis cage and saw 4 eggs and she was in the process. Im telling you, between Shmoges advice and Brians knowledge of what to do, I knew I was in good hands and now all the eggs are good and theyre sitting in my boaphile with a heat strip across the back. The ambient temps are about 82 continually and I will wait out the next couple of months for this to happen.

Since I want all 3 traits (Bloodred, Motley and Amel) to show up in at least one of the offspring, I am willing to wait until F1 is raised to breeding age, then I will pair two of the triple hets together to get that "Christmas assortment" of color morphs from F2. This is going to be great.

Good luck with this project, are all the hets known with your pair or could there be a suprise?

Hellboy, is a possible for anery in addition to the visuals of bloodred and motley. Idk if Schatzi is het for anything.
