Well they are in the country, rehydrated and wormed and ready to collect. Set ups will be gotten ready tonight, and picking them up from my good friend Mr Castille tomorrow night.

I can find no information on these having been kept captive, apart from a couple of South American zoos, anywhere. So this is going to be quite the adventure, I just hope I am up to it.

As there is almost no information bar taxonomy grouping out there, I thought I would start this thread and keep it updated with my own experiences so that others can learn from them.

I will start with what I know about them so far:-

They are South American, and the Genus contains 5 other Species. All are rear-fanged venomous, and while very little is known about the venom, the bite of one species has been reported to be able to kill prey as large as a cat. They're very docile by nature, however I will be treating these as a would a hot as I really do not want to be the first person to describe just how bad a bite may be!!

Their geographic range should give me enough clues on how to set their vivs up. I will be aiming for 60% humidity (not that I measure it) and temps of 75° - 85°. Then see how they get on from there.

This will be achieved with live substrate plenty of ground cover in the form of cork bark, and a moist hide. Heating will be with a ceramic set up. I will post pics of the set ups later.

Thats about all I can say at the moment, if anyone does have any knowledge of experince with these, please share. In the mean-time wish me luck.

EDIT* Forgot to add that they seem to be primarily lizard and small snake feeders.

For those of us still learning....you're talking about "Crowned False Boa" correct?

Red with a black head?
Are those the ones you are getting? A google search showed they can also have a ring of white. Any other info you may have?
I think it's pretty cool, mostly ; ) I hate importing them, but well there it is lol

An update for you guys.

I have managed to get one of them feeding on fresh killed snake, the other hasn;t eaten yet, but was looking a little dehyrdated so I have given him a rehydration bath, hopefully that will trigger a feeding response.

Here is a couple of pice of them in their homes ;)

A bit of an update, much has been learnt :)

Firstly and unfortunately the female did not take well to captivity and dies after about 4 weeks.

The male however is doing well, still feeding on fresh killed snake and growing.

I have found that they def don't appreciate it too warm. I have played around with the temps a bit, and found that he seems most active at around 82°

Anyway here are some pics of him :)

When do you plan to purchase another female?

Rather interesting species to say the least. Have you attempted to switch the male to lizards? Or rodents? Curious minds want to know your trials!

I'm curious about the feeding process - do you give it live snakes to eat or pre-kill? What kind of snakes is it eating and where do you get them?

I kill the snakes first, at the moment it has fed on cave racers, I hatched a bunch of kinked babies, and carpet pythons, I always have plenty of those around. Now it is feeding reguarly on this diet in captivity I am going to start trying to switch it to rodents.
