the matching was a female Snow X Male Amel (PH Anery). Since I am as positive as I can be that this little one is a snow, then we have proved daddy's PH of Anery!! I am so excited, this is my VERY FIRST BABY!!!!!! (that I bred anyways)
Without further ado, here's th first pics of my first hatchling!!

Are you sure that that is not a coral. I did not actually look at what makes a coral but if you look at ones like this yours look alot like it.
Snakefood
05-28-12, 08:50 PM
both mamma and pappa would have to have had hidden hets for coral,
what do you think Joanna???

Coral is a tricky one. It depends what you mean by coral!
Initially it was thought that the high pinks snows were home hypo and that's why they had the coral look. Some people still refer to corals as snows that are homozygous for hypo, amel and anery.
Some people call line bred snows that are very pink or peachy, corals and some people refer to strawberry snows as corals!
Most snows hatch very pink and their colors change with time. If the hatchling gets pinker and not lighter you could test it or the parents for hypo or strawberry. For now I'd say you have a very pretty snow.

thanks for the explanation. As far as I know mamma is a plain snow, her colors are more yellowish than pink. Here's pics of mamma

Any more slits?
Snakefood
05-30-12, 06:02 PM
nothing else yet!! at what point (if ever) should I be cutting??
will they do it on thier own, or will they die off in their eggs without my cutting for them??
at this point, all 9 eggs are firm and when candled have nice red veining
So, what do you think Joanna??
MojoHerps
05-30-12, 06:44 PM
Geesh that is a tough one! Usually one pips and then within 48 hours a whole slew have pipped. Some people would slit now and others would wait for 5 or more days to see what's up. Others take the approach that if the snake does not pip on its own there is something wrong with it and it was not meant to hatch.
I'm not much help am I? Was this egg somehow apart from the other eggs and may have been a bit warmer? If I am remembering correctly 60 days is Friday. Mine usually pip between 63-67 days so in a way your pretty snow is early. I guess I would probably wait.
Snakefood
05-30-12, 07:12 PM
This egg was on the top of the pile, so could very well have been warmer as I am incubating in a hova-bator (which has the heat source coming from the top) So should I wait a couple more days for the others??
I don't want to take the approach that if it does not pip on it's own, it's not meant to be, as I have seen very healthy babies come out of cut eggs (other people's clutches of course). I personally would like to give all of them the best chance at survival, so if I should cut to do so, then that is what I would like to do.
Yes, friday will be day 60. so...... It's a matter of when do I cut???
MojoHerps
05-30-12, 07:22 PM
They are probably far enough along that if you cut the eggs they should be fine.
Snakefood
05-30-12, 08:00 PM
And I just cut a small slit in the top and let them do the rest????
MojoHerps
05-30-12, 08:20 PM
Essentially yes! I know some people cut larger holes so they can see what's inside better. There may be a cutting thread in one of the other forums. I think it is more commonly done with other snakes. You might look on you tube too.
Snakefood
05-30-12, 10:57 PM
alright, I'll do it tomorrow afternoon. I'll let you know how it went.
Snakefood
05-31-12, 12:19 PM
so I punked out and only cut one, I'm going to see what happens with that one before cutting the others. I don't want to lose anyone if I can help it.
I made the cut at at about 10:30 am and just went back to check (11:15), doesn't look like it has moved or stuck it's head out yet, will check again in about an hr.

06-01-12, 04:13 AM
If you cut them (I would) its not a bad thing. If most of the clutch pipped on their own the eggs remaining should be close enough that the snake will just pop its head out to breath and finish soaking up the rest of the yoke in the egg before emerging. I just did this 3 days ago. Don't cut to big. I copy the size of the pips in the other eggs. Worked great. Never pull the snake out. They may sit like that a day or more. Good luck.

06-01-12, 07:16 PM
Only the one had pipped on it's own. So I decided to only cut one egg to see how it went.
the one I cut the other day is still hiding in his egg, however, I can see him moving in there, so he's still alive, just doesn't want to come out yet.
Then when I woke this morning, another had pipped on his own, but is still poking in and out of his egg.
So out of 10 eggs, I have one completely out (the above pictured snow) and one self-pipped but still in his egg (who looks to be another snow) and the one I cut, still in his egg (who looks to be another snow!!) and 7 that have not pipped or been cut
jaleely
06-01-12, 08:53 PM
Okay if today was 60 days...i say just poke a little hole in the remaining 7 and then leave them be. Just enough that if they push, they can push out the rest of the way : )
OH...and PICTUREESSSS!!!!
MojoHerps
06-01-12, 09:24 PM
I wonder if tomorrow you will wake up to a whole bunch pipped and your earlier hatchling was just that, early! They tend to stay in the egg for about a day after they pip and then come out so don't be surpised to find your pippie still in the egg.
Snakefood
06-01-12, 09:33 PM
and it is the smaller eggs pipping first, which I thought rather backwards.
the BIG ones with huge "windows" haven't pipped yet, and the smaller, more opaque ones have!!
jaleely
06-02-12, 12:58 PM
baby snakes are such cute little brats! staying in their egg...ugh sooo cute!!!
Snakefood
06-02-12, 02:29 PM
yup, the one I cut is still in it's egg, but today popped it's whole head out, so I think it will exit soon. I still think that one will be a snow.
I was mistaken on the other, where I could only see the very tip of the nose, he came wandering out of his egg late last night and proved to be an amel, then when I "just now" checked another was completely out of his egg and is another Amel.
So out of egg I have 1 snow and 2 Amels, pipped but in egg I have 1 I beleive is a snow, and 6 eggs still not pipped at all, so we'll have to see.
I have pics of the 3 out of egg which I will post for you guys after I eat!! I am starving!!

So happy to hear they are pipping and can't wait to see photos.
It was weird the way the snow pipped days ago. Oh well, nature never goes by the book!

thx!!
just went to get the last empty egg out of the incubator and another has pipped. the egg is slit but no nose or head sticking out, so no clue as to morph yet.
Looks like today will be an active day for pipping!! 5 more to go!!
congrats!! they look great
Snakefood
06-02-12, 05:01 PM
ok, the one that just pipped stuck his head out, looks like another Amel
MojoHerps
06-02-12, 05:07 PM
Nice looking hatchlings!
Theoretically you should get half and half snows but you never know.
Snakefood
06-02-12, 06:14 PM
well the one I cut has finally left the shell and is definately a snow, so the official count is...
2 Snows
2 Amels
6 unknown
funny that the one who's shell I cut is the only one who has tail rattled and struck (when I transferred him into his own tub!! (I wonder if cutting the egg pees them off???LOL)
Joanna: yeah, I did the math and it should be 50% Amel (het Anery) and 50% Snows, but then again 17 eggs were laid and only 10 made it to hatching time, so who knows what I'll actually end up with!!
Hubby asked if the uber huge eggs will hold twins, I told him it's possible, but big eggs doesn't neccesarily mean twins.
PS (Joanna) when do I pop them????

06-02-12, 06:16 PM
Congrats!!! 10 healthy babies is GREAT! :) Would love to see pics of all of them some time

thanks Alessia
only 4 are out of the egg as of yet, but I will eventually post pics of everyone who successfully hatches

06-02-12, 06:44 PM
Pop them when you want too!
Some leave them alone until after their first shed and they have eaten their first meal because they don't want to spook them. I can never wait and do it right away. I can't say I have noticed a difference in eating, some do some don't!
Snakefood
06-02-12, 06:48 PM
Awesome thanks!!
Not sure when I'll pop, but Iwould like to hold back a female snow and a male amel!!
Snakefood
06-07-12, 11:59 AM
So another snow came out of it's egg this morning.
my count is:
4 snows (1 may have to be euthed)
4 Amels's (het anery)
2 still in egg

I am amazed they are still pipping! You have the patience of a saint. I would be going nuts!

06-07-12, 09:15 PM
I am!!! and to make matters worse, mamma double clutched on me today, 14 more eggs (though only 5-7 look viable.
I've been trying to put her weight back on since laying the first 17, now I know why she didn't gain any weight.
God, please tell me she's done for the year, I really want to feed her up so I don't see her backbone anymore
I'm sitting here waiting for my other 2 females to lay, and Yuki lays AGAIN, but still nothing from my my other two!! what's up with that??????
On a worse note, I took the knotty one in to a local breeder and she says there's no way it will live and thinks the swollen part is already starting to necrosise?? (tissue death) so we have to euthanize it tonight.
MojoHerps
06-08-12, 06:35 AM
Sorry about Knotty. You are learning one of the hardest lessons of breeding with your first clutch.
Snakefood
06-08-12, 11:24 AM
ya it really sucked to have to do that, but at least he's not in pain now
All 12 of mine from the first clutch hatched out within 48 hours. They began hatching on the 2nd. Anyway, sorry you had to euthanize one. Thankfully I haven't had to do that yet, but I'm prepared if I do.
Snakefood
06-08-12, 08:11 PM
ok, another out of egg, so only one to go and this clutch is done!!!
What morph is this one? Looking forward to pics!
Snakefood
06-08-12, 10:05 PM
This one is an Amel.
I'll post pics of everyone as soon as this last one chooses to grace us with it's presence!!

06-10-12, 06:04 PM
Congratulations! I am so happy they all came out! I really thought you would have DIE, dead in the eggs. They usually all hatch with in 2-3 days. I am in awe of your patience!
Looking forward to photos.
Snakefood
06-10-12, 08:12 PM
after little knotty, I am glad I had no DIE's!!
is it really considered patience when you have no choice about it???? ;) LOL
had a hard day, may not get the pics posted till tomorrow!! Sorry all!!
It's been 2 days, we are all dying to see the babies.

So everyone is doing well, I am still waiting for "slowpoke" (the last to hatch) to give a first shed!! Everyone else has shed and eaten once (the first few have eaten twice)
I am holding back one female snow, and one male Amel het Anery. The rest will be up for sale once they have taken 3 meals.
The second clutch of eggs is dropping out fast, out of 14 layed, I thought only 5 were viable, but after wating a bit and some candling, I think only 1 is viable.
But on an up note, my female is eating rats every 5 days and already plumping up nicely!! Looks like she bounces back well!!
Hey mojo, when you get around to getting on this thread, can you tell me this:
since she double clutched this year, does this mean she'll do it every year?? should I prepare for this the next time I breed her and maybe feed her rats right throughout the breeding season to keep her weight up??

Out of the clutch of 9, 6 have eaten 3 meals, 2 have eaten 2 meals, and one has eaten one!!
Congrats on your sell! I just made my first as well, a male snow!

Yes it is! I have several other potential buyers too!
Snakefood
06-22-12, 12:55 PM
I have another one sold (mostly) just waiting for the payment to be deposited, then it's finalized to go to PG with Davethe Python. There was another in PG, but somehow they figured I would send it up north beofre payment was made!! Ya, right!!
Then I have another person on the sunshine coast thinking about one too. So I am having fairly good luck!!
I have sold a second one now too! Just waiting on payment. Then I have 2 more potential buyers!
