So, mum didn't mind me getting a diamond python, and she's getting to like him, BUT, she absolutely does NOT want frozen rats in the freezer! She was told by the pet shop owner that it is not unclean to do so,so I bought 3 medium rats and took them home and gave my python one but she just could not bring herself to put them in her freezer so I had to throw TH 2 rats away! I said to mum they can eat quail and she said she can have them in the freezer, but I know he can't JUST eat quail. They don't sell SINGLE medium rats but they sell single LARGE rats. Would he be able to cope with a large? I can feed him a quail, then 1 1/2 weeks later a rat, then maybe 3 weeks later another quail??? I'm not 100% sure if I can afford a $28 rat ALL the time:no:, maybe one every 2nd or 3rd feeding, is that ok??
I'd pick up a small chest freezer of your very own, and stock it full :D

I know most snakes will eat something that is 2x their size. I [I]heard[I] that carpets can and will consume much larger prey. I would weigh your snake then see if its large enough to consume a large rat.
I've also heard from folks that feeding several times throughout the week is bad for the snakes digestive system. I feed all my kids 1.5-2x their size.
Or you can just look in your want ads and just loom for a cheap chest freezer an stock up. Order online bulk or go to expos and buy bulk.

Mum is being VERY fussy! She doesn't want another electrical appliance on our property cos it's too expensive:angry:, so my only option would be to pay the pet store extra to keep it in their freezer. Hope I can.

Find other snake keepers in your area... or even better a snake keeper that breeds their own food. Then you pick up as needed.

find another supplier of food, thats outrageous.
Do NOT try and over feed your diamond, it will live a very short life if you do.

Im quite sure I don't have feeder breeders nearby :( ALL the pet store rats are the same price,
But 2 main questions are: can he live off mostly quail??
I'm not TRYING to overfeed him, I feed him every 1 1/2 weeks as advised by the breeder, though is that too much?:hmm: cos he did tell me to keep the temp hot spot ALWAYS 27 degrees celciuss even in winter.... There are just SOO many people saying different things about how to keep him!!
I WANT THE EXACT PRECISE TRUE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO KEEP HIM HAPPY HEALTHY AND EXPECTING A LONG LIFE!!!!!!!

I would PM shaunyboy - he is the biggest keeper of diamonds on here (i think - sorry if i am missing anyone else :))
He keeps and breeds his diamonds successfully and personally i would trust him to the end of the earth with any of my animals :)

its the long life that is the crucial bit there.
I didn;t mean to imply that you were deliberately trying ot over feed so sorry if it came across that way.
Quail is fine as part of a balanced diet. 2 quail to 1 rat should be ok. They do need cool time, I feed the ones here every 3 - 4 weeks, but they are 12 month sold.

Have you contacted the breeder you got your carpet from? Obviously he can't afford that many rats that expensive so he must have some breeder/breeds his own.
Edit: my grandma lets me keep feeders in an opaque paper bag in her freezer since my fridge isn't big enough.

See if your mother will let you keep frozen rates in an opaque plastic tub in the freezer. Thats how I had to do our when I was a kid haha.

She HATES rats, so there is no possible way she will let them near her fridge/freezer |:(
