Sketchy Reticulated

I just got a male jampea retic today(hatchling), very beautiful.

anyway he is sweet doesnt show any aggression, very good feeding response (fed him a live weiner rat). The only thing about him is he is very sketchy. He seems more terrified than angry, as soon as i touch him the tiniest bit he starts speeding as fast as he can all over his enclosure. Once i have him out on my hand he is okay (except when i touch his head). But he seems extremely nervous and jumpy. I know retics move around more and show curiosity more than burms or boas, but this guy is just crazy! Will this wear off with frequent handling? what do you guys suggest?

How old is he? Is he a SD? Looks like he might be in shed. Seems kind of dark. I would leave him alone for a week to settle in. Remember if you just got him today he most like very stressed out. With handling he should tame down.

He is not super dwarf. Jampea dwarf. So alot smaller than the normals but not quite as small as SDs.

The reason i asked if he was a SD is they tend to be darker than regular. Once he settles in i love to see more pictures.

Yea jampeas are darker as well. He was the darkest there, out of all the other dwarfs, he could very well be in shed. Could that explain his twitchiness as well?

You only got him today, chill out and let him settle in for a week or two, onlyo nce he has acclimatised will you be able to tell his personality.

Soon. Sorry its taking a while it's just she's grown to be quite aggressive, so i don't handle her much. next time i clean i'll get a pic or 2!



and LankyRob i will leave her for a week or so. I heard some turn out to stay twitchy for the rest of their lives i hope thats not the case with mine.

SDs? No not really... They have different coloration than normals, more yellow-green and silver but like some other snakes they can go through "phases" and you'll see different shades and colors in one shed cycle, and not your typical normal, dull, blue, clearer, shed either. I've seen mine go from so yellow it looks like a platinum retic to a more green than yellow green-yellow. Jamps are typically darker, but similar coloration to SDs.

OP: how's your jamp doing? Improved any? I've seen the updated pics and he's looking good.

Doing really good. Gets brighter with every shed.(looking less and less like his jamp side lol) I got the hatch date from the breeder, April 19th. That puts him at around 3 months and a bit, and 3 and a half feet or so. The feeding response is definitely growing stronger, but still sweet as can be once out. He's actually going into shed again very soon, (3rd shed with me already) and i can't wait to see what new shades and colours he has this time.

Fantastic news. Like I said, they change colors even between shed cycles, Aneries make it really evident. They go from a silver to a green/brown and back.

I know what you mean. Stringers silver sides turn into a nice blue colour when i shed. Not blue like the dull blue hard to explain lol. But when he's in shed his colours are just as amazing just a complete different shade, you'd think it's a different snake.
