Woooooot! Where did you find him? Does he seem to be ok?

In the *very* unfortunate even any of you should ever experience an escape, no worries! Just let me know, send Marcy round-trip tickets, and I'll send her to find your snake. She's amazing!

She found him in amongst the chickens! She said she saw something funny about his belly scales, like bruising. I just looked quickly and didn't see anything, no marks. However, his head seems to very waving side to side more than I'd like to see. I'm hoping its not a head injury or anything neurological. Like I said, no visible injuries to show, anyone's been pecking at him or anything, so I don't think the chickens hurt him. I'm going to let him relax for maybe a couple days and see if that improves at all.

Any thoughts on that at all?

How long was he out for, Roy, and what were the temps like during that period, both inside and out? Deprivation from water and exposure to too-high or too-low conditions can all cause damage, and knowing what he might have been subject to will give you an ideas what to watch for. All that said, HUGE CONGRATS!

Hi Cliff,

He was gone somewhere between 11-13 days. During that time, the weather was ok so temps in the house, even in the basement I'd say didn't drop below 65° F. There were a few days I think that got pretty hot though and the A/C had been on, so if he spent any time at all in the vents, he got pretty cold.

We made water available upstairs where we'd hoped he might have been, but no evidence that he ever found that. BRB's all get fed tonight, so I'll be interested to see if he eats or not. Fingers crossed!

Let us know if he eats... that should be a good sign if he does
any more head wobbling?

Strutter769

I just checked in on him and he seems a little sluggish, but otherwise ok. No noticeable head wobble at all, so that makes me happy. Tonight is feeding night, but I've got the PETCO thing tomorrow, so I was thinking about holding off til tomorrow; however, after realizing how, long it's been, I think I'll feed him alone tonight.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I was outside taking pictures... Wait, pictures?! Meet me in the Boa room.

He had to have found water somewhere. At that age, they can pass in less than a week if they have no access at all...I know this from a breeder friend who found out the hard way. :-( Still, I'd bet he was at least partly dehydrated, so anything you can do to treat that is probably a good move.

As for temps...tough call. Check for any signs of an RI just in case. Too hot would be the worse problem though...and there's not much you can do at this point except make sure his humidity and temps are correct. BTW, just in case his system *is* stressed, you might want to skip this feeding. A snake can go a long time without food, and there is no sense diverting energy that might be needed for healing into digesting.

Good luck!

I so agree with Cliff and how's he doing?

Thanks Chuck. I'd be interested in an update on the patient, too! Doing well I hope?

Seems ok. I skipped his feeding this week per above. The wobble is gone, but he's moving very slowly still. Hoping that'll be back to normal after a feeding. I should really wait another week? Even as lethargic as he seems?

Snakesitter

I would. Snakes can go a looong time without food, and a few more days will not hurt him. It might, however, take divert resources from healing to digestion. I'd be more worried about lingering heat and hydration effects. Has he been drinking and soaking, by the way? How is his weight comparied to pre-escape? Fingers crossed for the little guy!

He showed some interest but didn't take a fuzzy today. Hoping he'll grab it before morning.

Stay tuned....
