As a side note, I must say I have some mixed feelings about how the direction things are headed with carpet pythons. It seems like everyone is out to just produce the next new thing so they can have an exclusive market for a few years and charge ridiculous prices for snakes that will eventually end up being downright hideous (I know beauty is subjective). There is also a ton of crazy mixing and frankensnakes out there. I'm not so sure how I feel about a diamond caramel jungle jag IJ granite axanthic zebra tiger albino carpet ;) It seems like this is the direction things are going. It seems in a few years the carpet world will be just like that of ball pythons, except of course the base snake is much cooler in our case :) I guess there are still plenty of people out there breeding nice non designer frankensnakes with some appreciation for the natural beauty each subspecies holds. But I feel like that market is slowly going to shrink in favor of producing as many new morphs as possible and breeding them in every combination possible just to make something new with no regards to subspecies until everything our there is some crazy mutt. I'm also not a huge fan of the jag thing. It's like purposely having kids that you know will have Down syndrome and breeding them together because you like the way their big heads look. The jag gene produces some of the most beautiful carpets out there, but it is a deleterious allele in hets, and homozygous embryonic lethal. I'm in no position to tell anyone what to do, and I'm not the world's voice on right or wrong, good or bad, or pretty or ugly--these are just my own personal feelings. I know they are not shared by a lot of people judging by the fact that everyone has or wants a jag and everyone seems to gladly shell out big dollars to bask in the glory of being among the first to have the next "world's first." I feel like before I know it I'll see advertisements for a pied super pastel mohave spider carpet python with god knows what proportion of each subspecies mixed together.

I hope not hellosugaree, but carpets are too cool to become ball pythons

Having said all that, I guess at the same time I am happy to be around to see the change rather than to jump in 20 years later after everything is crazy. This way, at least I can look back on good old days and say: "I remember a simpler time when people could tell you the subspecies of their carpet pythons and they weren't orange and fluorescent purple." :D When talking to young people about snakes, I can start all my sentences with: "Son, when I was your age . . ."

Please, tell us how you really feel... ;)
Aside from that, I'm curious if the sunglow carpet is a designer mutation or a base mutation from the wild. Someone enlighten me.

In around 7 - 8, maybe 10 if we are lucky, years time the carpet market will be exactly like the ball python market. I will be out of it by then though, so good luck to them LOL

sunglow = carmel het albino x albino

Thanks buddy. I didn't know it worked in carpets. I really only knew the ball and boa situation where caramels are recessive and are generally apart of the albino complex so aptly named "caramel albinos".

this season and the next few years, imo is going to be really exciting regards carpet genetics
the first multipule hets have already been created, leading to many new carpety things being produced over the next 4 or 5 years
a line of axanthic irians have been made available, along with an already established line of coastal axanthics, granites, zebra's,albino's,jaguar's,carme l's
the futures bright for morelia mate:)

Honestly, no species will ever catch the ball python market. Far too much going on there.

no of course, it will never be anywhere near that market in terms of sheer number of morphs or volume, I was refering more to the mentality of the market.

That's a spiral any species will take when money is involved on a large scale

We have some very nice High contrast albies here and I'd like to see how the sunglow would compare to them as it matures.
