Everglades racer? Didn't know there was such a thing. I have only heard of black, yellow bellied, blue and buttermilk racers.

Ya learn something new every day! :D In Florida we have 3 types of racers: Brownchin Racer, Everglades Racer, and the Southern Black Racer.
The Everglades Racer is pictured beautifully by the OP.

My first guess would have been a black racer, didn't even know the swamp had its own species, pretty snake nevertheless

Yup! The Everglades is the only one of it's kind in the world, so we have a whole bunch of species that only exist in that area. The Everglades racer is "found in the Everglades region and throughout the southern peninsula and northern Florida Keys. It is also found near Cape Canaveral in Brevard Co., FL. It is not found outside of Florida." (Source (http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/herpetology/fl-guide/Colubercpaludicola.htm))

One of the most endangered species of the world is in the Everglades: the Florida panther. It is only located in the Everglades area and survives off of the white-tail deer in that area. There are less that 100 wild Florida panthers left. :( I'm constantly at city and state meetings about the Everglades and I hate how we've been exploiting an area that is so unique and beautiful, and destroying the animals that survive in it.

Now that I know there are a few members near me :), can either of you PM me information with good breeders in the area? I got my snake from my cousin who was a breeder for a long time. He has since stopped, so I need a new connection for a new snake in the near future.

Scientific names aid in identification better since a lot of the common names are just colloquial.....
Those racers... they're cute as hell.
And they look really inquisitive! Always watching you to see what's going on... :bouncy:

This thread is a little old... I gave the scientific name in the first page.
It looks like a Everglades Racer to me (Coluber constrictor paludicola).
