Burms are getting more and more expensive with the ban being passed now. If you intend to get one any time in the near future, and the enclosure this one comes with is a decent cage, I'd say go for it- that's a great price.

What Kim said. Although if you don't plan on breeding paying the premium for TH seems kinda pointless, but that really is a decent price. Pics and size? M/F?
edit: I figured prices on babies would skyrocket, but adults should have plummeted.

I thought you said burms were illegal where you live? Or was that just condas and retics?

Condas and Retics. Burms are legal in Iowa. In Des Moines, I have the required big snake permit.

The point of this thread asks the question "why do these things always come up when decided 'enough snakes'?"

Because that's just how life works. Happens to me and car parts all the time. Or I buy something and then it pops up on sale or the price drops a week or two after I bought it. Something like that.

I understand where you guys are coming from and yeah I admit all this is very tempting but no my situation right now does not fit with a Burm as much as I'd like one. Maybe one day when my living arrangements are different, I can see myself with one but for now... no.
I dont regret GI Jane and am still excited about her but this is fresh off the heels of that acquisition. Man was it fun imaging this though.

The ban will not lift, but this is going to create a tremendous "niche" market for those who have burms, and breed large constrictors. Very few people breed them as it is, now lets see, guy in Denver (my state) wants a burm- he can't buy from any other state, only breeders in his state.
Smart breeder knows very few people have the snake or babies for sale, triples/quadruples his price and still gets sales- because there is no where else to legally go for the animals. If you have the room and the time, get into the big constrictors now, it'll pay off big time in a few years.
I wouldn't be shocked if somehow Boas made it to the ban list in the next 1-2 years, and those are a huge staple in the pet trade and do well in a collector/breeder market and are a big easier to house maintain. With chain stores unable to carry them and the demand still there, breeders will make a killing.
Watch for breeders dumping stock as ban waves come in, and don't follow suit. Buy them!

What's SOD stand for? Must be a Scott thing.
I agree with Shaun, if you can manage it, at that price, I would go for it. What size enclosure does it come with? If you need to wait to get something bigger you can always keep it in a big tub until you can find something that will last as a "forever" home.

sod's law = murphy's law
Sod's law is a name for the axiom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axiom) of "bad fortune will be tailored to the individual" and "anything that can go wrong, will".[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sod%27s_law#cite_note-0) "Toast will always land butter side down" is often given as an example of Sod's law in action. The phrase is seemingly derived, at least in part, from the colloquialism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colloquialism) an "unlucky sod (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/sod)"; a term used to describe someone who has had some bad unlucky experience, and is usually used as a sympathetic reference to the person.
The term is still commonly used in Britain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Britain), though in North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America) the eponymous (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eponym) "Murphy's law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murphy%27s_law)" is more popular.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sod%27s_law#cite_note-1)
cheers shaun:)
p.s.i understand that it will create a nique in the market,but....

Several things I want to adress and I just now got home so I can do this on a computer unstead of my stupid "smart" phone. First off, yes I do have experience with big snakes like you said Shaun. While Black Betty may not be an Anaconda, she is still a big snake at 9 1/2'. With my permit, there are also no legal issues with a big snake in Des Moines as long as its legal in Iowa, which Burms are. My concern is the tank hes in right now, while its ok for him to be in it since he is only 4' long, he wont stay that size for long and I know this. Right now, hes in a 55 gallon tank so if I get him he will get a new enclosure shortly thereafter but considering how long it took for AP to make a rack for me after I ordered it, I might be better off ordering a big snake enclosure first, then after it comes, look at getting a Burm. Another thing to consider is that this prospective deal is fresh on the heels of acquiring GI Jane and Im still making payments on her. This coupled with the fact that as long as Im living here in this house, there is no way I could get a Burm anyway. Like I said, if my living arrangements change in the near future, I can see myself with a Burm, just not right now.
Kyle, you are right in that unless I plan on breeding him, TH doesnt matter. I understand that. I havent even thought ahead that far anyway. I appreciate you guys confidence in my ability to be able to handle a Burm and when that time comes, I will be well prepared. :)

Hoh boy, on a proper feeding schedule that burn is gonna outgrow that 55 gallon and fast. Sounds like you're making the responsible decision based on your circumstances. Sucks being a grown up doesn't it?

Shaun, that's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure I was understaning you. Speaking of toast landing butter side down, I actually had that happen to me last weekend with a bratwurst in a bun, all the condiments wound up on the floor.

Just remember no matter how many snakes you have there will always be 1 more you want. You need to understand how many you can afford to feed, house and potentially vet for years and years.

Feeding is not the problem with a stock of over 460 rats. Its the housing and my housing that is the current problem. I'll just bide my time for now.

I understand that you have rat breeding going on now but long term will want to still be breeding in 15yrs? It's just another thing to think about when you acquire a new snake.. I think to many people fail to think of these things. I am in no way saying you do I am just thinking aloud...

Its still not enough to tip the scales though. And I vow this right now on this public forum. There is absolutely no way I will ever get another snake if it is beyond my ability to take care of it. "So let it be written, so let it be done".

Not only that but he'll be eating rabbits in no time with a proper feeding schedule.
As you know, these animals aren't easy to properly house and I commend you for thinking first and not jumping in feet first. Especially at this steal of a deal. There will be another one come around when you're ready for one. It may just take a while to find.
And I've recently had to turn down taking in unwanted snakes. I have enough to deal with trying to get settled in without adding more. One was a blood and I almost cried when I decided to not get him..and I want a blood almost as bad as I want a retic, which if things go well, I should be getting by the end of summer.
